The Biological Monitor will provide environmental compliance oversight during construction activities, ensuring implementation of approved Best Management Practices (BMPs), permit conditions, and mitigation measures. This role focuses on protecting sensitive habitats, wildlife, and water resources while supporting construction teams in maintaining regulatory compliance.

Key Duties

  • Monitor and document implementation of environmental BMPs and mitigation measures.
  • Protect wetlands, forests, grasslands, and conservation areas outside approved limits of disturbance.
  • Verify installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment controls and SWPPP compliance.
  • Install, monitor, and remove environmental fencing, barriers, and signage as required.
  • Monitor dewatering activities and relocate stranded wildlife when necessary.
  • Oversee native plantings, invasive species control, and equipment cleaning procedures.
  • Monitor noise and lighting controls to minimize impacts on wildlife.
  • Ensure water quality protections are implemented, including spill response and material handling.
  • Monitor seasonal clearing activities and ensure required environmental monitoring is in place.
  • Conduct acoustic bat monitoring during construction and post-construction in accordance with approved study plans.
  • Coordinate with environmental teams and construction management to address compliance issues promptly.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
  • Experience performing environmental or biological monitoring on construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of environmental permits, BMPs, SWPPP requirements, and erosion and sediment controls.
  • Familiarity with wildlife and habitat protection measures, including invasive species management.
  • Experience with acoustic bat monitoring and environmental field data collection preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in active construction environments for extended periods.
  • Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $50.00 - $70.00 per hour
