SUMMARY

Paragon Professional Services LLC (Paragon) is seeking an Environmental Field Technician, Sr. to support a wide range of environmental projects. Primary duties will include ensuring safe work practices and compliance with health and safety requirements; performing field sampling, monitoring, and equipment operation; supporting and leading field activities with heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, and skid steers; assisting with site inspections and hazard assessments; documenting daily field operations; and preparing after-action and safety reports. Additional responsibilities include supporting planning documents and contributing to technical input for proposals.

Wage/Salary: $85,000 - $90,000 / year

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facility inspections and checklists
  • Monitor physical and functional condition of building systems
  • Identify and report deficiencies
  • Planning, coordination and quality assurance requirements and specifications for service contract support of facility repairs
  • Coordinate and participate in occupational health and safety inspections
  • Operate heavy equipment
  • Provide quality assurance inspection and oversight for maintenance and repair and document as required
  • Monitor facility systems
  • Ensure proper storage, usage, disposal, and documentation of hazardous materials and hazardous waste
  • Monitor and inspect life safety, physical security and fire prevention requirements
  • Address deficiencies if required
  • Respond to all information requests
  • Attend Project Review Boards as requested
  • Documentation, checklists and reports
  • Review safety procedures and processes with team members onsite (Standard Operating Procedures, Activity Hazard Analysis, Job Safety Analysis, etc.)
  • Understanding and use of Stop Work Authority (SWA)and when to apply SWA
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid commercial driver’s license, Class A (required for hauling small heavy equipment)
  • Five plus years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possess or obtain 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training and EM-385-1
  • Current 8-hour HAZWOPER Refresher Training

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Must have working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing and spreadsheets (MSWord, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Current favorable National Agency Check with Inquiry (NACI), in accordance with AR 380-67
  • Valid Drives License
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with military personnel, management and fellow HQ Engineer Techs, Field Engineer Techs, and contractors
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation
  • General office administrative and clerical skills to perform support duties and answer telephones

  • Treats people with respect; keeps commitments; inspires the trust of others; works with integrity and ethically; upholds organizational values
  • Knowledge and experience working around and operating heavy equipment
  • Willingness to learn to operate compaction gauges, X-Ray Fluorescence instruments, Trimbles, laser levels, line locating equipment, and GPR units
  • 5 years of experience with civil/demolition construction sites
  • 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, excavators, skid steers)
  • Experience with equipment maintenance and basic repairs
  • Load securement techniques (chains, binders, straps)
  • Weight distribution and load balancing
  • Recognizes and promotes a culture of safety
  • Knowledge and competency of OSHA and CAL-OSHA regulations

  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety-sensitive” functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee will normally work outside. During work activities, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
