Position Overview

North Coast Paving is seeking an experienced and detail-driven Senior Estimator to lead the company’s estimating efforts for asphalt paving and sitework projects across Northeast Ohio. This position plays a key role in securing profitable work, managing bid strategies, and ensuring estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with company goals.

Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Bidding

  • Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for public and private paving projects.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine scope and requirements.
  • Perform detailed takeoffs for asphalt, aggregates, milling, and related items.
  • Solicit and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Develop and maintain accurate cost databases and production rate benchmarks.
  • Prepare bid summaries and proposals.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and bid openings as needed.

Project & Client Coordination

  • Work with management team to transition awarded projects from bid to build.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, engineers, and municipal representatives.
  • Provide input on project schedules, budgets, and constructability.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide guidance and training to junior estimators and office staff involved in estimating support.
  • Help standardize estimating procedures, templates, and cost tracking systems.
  • Participate in strategic pricing and market analysis to improve bid success rate.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience in asphalt paving
  • Strong knowledge of paving materials, methods, and equipment.
  • Proficient with estimating software (HCSS, B2W, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specs, and bid documents.
  • Strong math, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven track record of accurately estimating and winning competitive bids.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
