Job Description: Senior Field Service Technician – Direct Imaging (DI) Exposure Systems
Position Title: Sr. Field Service Technician – Direct Imaging (DI) Exposure Systems
Department: Customer Support & Technical Services
Reports To: Field Service Manager
Location: Covington, Georgia Customer site or Field-Based (50–75% Travel)
1. Role Overview
The Direct Imaging (DI) Field Service Tech. is responsible for installing, commissioning, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing high-precision Digital Direct Imaging (DI/DE/DLT) exposure systems at customer manufacturing facilities. Working with cutting-edge optical, high-precision mechanical, laser, and electronics subsystems, the engineer serves as the primary technical expert on-site to minimize tool downtime, ensure high yield/throughput, and maintain exceptional customer satisfaction.
2. Key Responsibilities
System Installation & Commissioning
- Perform on-site unboxing/uncrating, precision leveling, electrical-mechanical assembly, and system turn-up for advanced Direct Imaging Exposure equipment.
- Calibrate stage motion accuracy, optical/laser systems, and auto-alignment registration systems according to OEM engineering specifications.
- Conduct Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and collaborate with customer process engineers to validate exposure quality and registration overlay.
Preventive/Corrective Maintenance & Tool Upgrades
- Execute scheduled Preventative Maintenance (PM) procedures that will include optic/electronic/mechanical inspection/cleaning, consumable parts replacement, stage/axis motion tuning, and system calibration
- Rapidly respond to tool down events; perform root-cause failure analysis (RCFA) on complex hardware, software, optics, and electro-mechanical issues.
- Repair or replace subassemblies such as, but not limited to UV and Visible LED / Laser sources, DMD (Digital Micromirror Device), optics, motion controllers, pneumatic systems, electronic sensors, mechanical parts, and driver modules
- Perform tool upgrades, modifications and retrofits as needed
Technical Support & Process Optimization
- Act as the technical liaison between customer engineering staff and internal R&D/Applications engineering teams.
- Troubleshoot exposure defects (e.g., line-width variation, overlay misalignment, pattern distortion) and optimize system parameters for target photoresist materials.
- Maintain cleanroom protocol compliance (Class 10/100 or ISO 4/5 environments).
Administrative & Operational Compliance
- Accurately document all service activities, field modifications, parts usage, and system histories in the Field Service Management (CRM) system in a timely manner.
- Manage local spare parts trunk stock, tool calibration cycles, and field return authorizations (RMA).
- Comply with strict cleanroom safety guidelines, Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) regulations, lockout/tagout (LOTO), laser safety regulations and customer site policies.
- Create Statement of Purpose (SOP), submit weekly updates and reports, and publish other requested periodic reports.
Candidate Requirements
1. Basic Qualifications & Experience
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or Physics.
- OR Associate degree in Engineering Technology (focus on Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical) with 3+ years of field experience in photolithography or semiconductor equipment.
- OR Equivalent military technical training (e.g., radar, optical systems) with 4+ years of relevant electromechanical experience.
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years hands-on experience in field service, tool maintenance, or system integration of high-precision capital equipment.
2. Technical Competencies & Expertise
Key Skill Requirements:
- Precision Optics & Lasers: Familiarity with UV and visible laser sources, optical beam alignment, optic mirrors, DMD engines, lens assemblies, and laser power sensors.
- Motion Control & Automation: Experience with multi-axis linear motor stages, high-resolution optical encoders, piezo actuators, and servo drive tuning.
- Electronics & Troubleshooting: Proficiency in reading complex schematics, wiring diagrams, PCB layout diagrams, and utilizing oscilloscopes and DMMs.
- Software & Systems: Ability to learn and run proprietary machine control software, diagnostic tools, and Linux/Windows embedded systems; basic knowledge of CAD/CAM raster processing (Gerber, ODB++) is a plus.
- Process Understanding: Basic knowledge of photolithography, photoresist exposure processes, alignment mark recognition systems, and registration measurement.
3. Soft Skills & Personal Attributes
- Customer Focus: Strong interpersonal skills to manage customer expectations during stressful, high-cost downtime situations.
- Analytical Problem Solving: Structured approach to troubleshooting complex, multi-variable engineering issues (software vs. mechanical vs. optical).
- Self-Direction: Proven ability to manage schedules, travel commitments, and independently deliver field service.
- Language Skills
- Required: Professional working proficiency in English language.
- Advantage: Professional working proficiency in Korean and/or Japanese language.
4. Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Cleanroom Compliance: Able to work in cleanroom garments (bunny suits) for extended durations.
- Mobility & Lifting: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted (toolboxes, spare parts) and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, reaching and working at heights
- Vision: Normal color vision and depth perception (required for optic alignments and wiring identification).
- Travel: Valid Passport, Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; willing to travel up to 75% locally/regionally/internationally on short notice, including occasional overnight and weekend shifts.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
