Senior Finance & Grant Accounting Manager

Holistic is partnering with a national, mission-driven nonprofit organization to identify a Senior Finance & Grant Accounting Manager. This is a confidential search conducted on behalf of our client and is not a position with Holistic.

Our client is a growing nonprofit organization operating across multiple regions. This role will serve as a key partner to senior finance leadership and play a critical role in strengthening nonprofit accounting operations, grant oversight, and compliance infrastructure.

Position Overview:

The Senior Finance & Grant Accounting Manager works closely with the organization’s senior finance leadership to support financial reporting, grant compliance, audit readiness, and cross-functional financial operations.

This role collaborates regularly with program, development, and operations teams to ensure financial accuracy, strong internal controls, and alignment with funder requirements.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Accounting Support

  • Support month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Ensure accurate recording of expenses, revenues, and funds in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Assist with internal financial reports, variance analyses, and audit schedules
  • Provide quality control review of bookkeeping work

Grant Accounting & Compliance

  • Monitor grant spending to ensure proper allocation and compliance with donor and contractual requirements
  • Prepare and support grant financial reports and invoices
  • Maintain grant tracking tools and monitor over/under spending
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and private funder requirements, including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), as applicable
  • Support Single Audit preparation and respond to auditor and funder requests
  • Assist with grant budget development and revisions

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with program, development, and operations teams on grant-funded activities
  • Provide guidance on allowable costs, documentation standards, and financial processes
  • Support financial components of proposals, renewals, and grant close-outs
  • Participate in recurring finance and development meetings
  • Serve as a financial resource across departments

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

  • Support strong internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Assist with oversight of purchasing, credit cards, and expense management processes
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial workflows and reporting efficiency
  • Support audit readiness throughout the year

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 4–6+ years of nonprofit accounting experience, including grant accounting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial practices
  • Experience with federal and private grants; familiarity with Uniform Guidance and Single Audits strongly preferred
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Professional judgment and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Comfortable working independently while partnering closely with senior leadership
  • Experience working in a mission-driven organization preferred

Pay: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
