Role Overview

To develop, optimize and refine content in the area of financial news and analysis for Zawya.com.

Key Responsibilities

Be able to independently write original, relevant financial and regional capital markets content that resonates with our target audience, with minimal direction.

Be able to produce, on a consistent basis, a healthy output of in-depth financial- and capital markets-related stories, focusing on asset classes, investments, ECM, DCM, M&A, and macroeconomic outlooks.

Review content for relevance, accuracy, factual errors, incorrect statements, and online usability.

Correct content for style, grammar, punctuation, and spelling

Work to tight deadlines and work with senior editors and team members to constantly give leads and flush out content ideas.

Optimize content using best practices in tagging, keyword usage, headline creation, content optimization and basic SEO.

Possess skills to work in a business news team and collaborate with colleagues on several stories.

Maintain a solid working relationship with the regional financial community including Senior bankers, c-level executives, financial analysts, wealth and fund managers.

Work regularly with senior editors and other team members to ensure editorial projects progress on schedule.

Monitor content feeds and update spreadsheets, databases, and other related content repositories as required.

Be able to use analytics to determine various metrics of content performance (e.g. traffic, engagement) and use this information to tailor, improve content.

Push content through social media channels to increase readership numbers.

Experience / Skills

At least 7-10 years’ experience as a finance writer/journalist with a local or global publication.

Excellent financial writing and reporting experience, with a strong grasp of capital markets.

Must be able to translate complex financial concepts into clear, engaging content tailored for both informed audiences and lay readers.

Experience writing for digital platforms in a conversational and accessible tone is critical.

Basic understanding of HTML and SEO.

Quality control and fact checking.

Proficiency with Content Management Systems (CMS).

Experience in video content creation is a plus.

Time management and managing workload.

Communication and ‘audience relationship’ skills.

Fluency in English language is required.

Arabic language is a plus.

Certifications / Education

A university degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Journalism, or Political Science is required.

A Master of Finance (MFin), Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) or a related financial qualification is an added advantage.
