Job Title: Senior EdTech Information Architect

Location: Remote Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior Information Architect to shape order, clarity, and coherence from large, messy, or fragmented collections of learning and technical content. This role reports directly to the Director, Learning & Content Creation and sits upstream of content creation. You will distill complexity, define structure, devise the best delivery formats for effective communication of varied types of information, and produce polished content or training solutions. The role requires excellent critical thinking, analysis, organization, communication, writing, editing and document formatting skills.

You will review and analyze extensive and often inconsistent or incomplete source material (everything from 100+ pages of technical or conceptual documents to vague single-page outlines, spreadsheets to SME interviews, presentations with paragraphs of slide notes to outdated animated video collections) and transform it into a clear, logic-driven, fully architected Education Technology solution.

That solution may be anything from a detailed storyboard to a library of job aids embedded with social engagement features. Sometimes it’s a completely new delivery model: a hybrid resource system, an interactive information matrix, a multi-pathway learning environment, or an unconventional custom solution tailored to the content, audience, and the client’s goals.

Your information architecture talents will inform or enhance the work of visual and information designers, instructional or learning experience designers, technical writers, multimedia developers, and XR/VR developers.

How You Think & Work

Effective communication is core to your craft. You “translate” poor quality information into coherent understanding for clients, SMEs, and teammates. You can both articulate high-level structure and keep track of details, pose useful perspectives, ask the right questions, and improve the information in a way that is concise and respectful to the source.

You can hold large, complex bodies of information in your mind at once, to analyze across them for patterns, continuity, gaps, redundancy, contradictions, dependencies, and possible ways it can be organized.

When a client knows what they want, you execute with precision. When they don’t, you guide them to the solution they didn’t know they needed. You understand how information architecture choices affect cognition, behavior, workflow, learning, and comprehension. You can predict how different edits or approaches will impact results, articulate the tradeoffs with clarity, and help the client decide on what best aligns with their needs.

You guide SMEs (of every level and across varied fields and industries) through their own knowledge, uncovering what matters, clarifying what’s missing, and translating their expertise into a coherent, goal‑aligned structure. They walk away seeing their own knowledge more clearly because of how you navigate it with them.

Along the way, you’ve become fluent in a wide range of tools…not because you chased mastery, but because each new project required something different, and you learned whatever you needed to build the right solution.

You leverage AI intelligently and responsibly: for exploration, acceleration, precision, and QA. It’s another tool that expands your capacities, and it depends on your human judgment, insight and creativity, not the other way around.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex source materials and distill them into clear, easy-to-consume deliverables.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to extract clarity, uncover context and real-world application, and strengthen conceptual accuracy.
  • Write polished, learning and training-focused technical and conceptual content from scratch, based on personal and AI-assisted research.
  • Edit or polish existing copy from documentation, presentations and other materials of dozens to hundreds of pages.
  • Establish logic, hierarchy and flow across large volumes of disparate content.
  • Design conceptual frameworks, structural wireframes, content maps, and narrative flows for designers, LXDs, and developers to execute against.
  • Collaborate with the information designer and our Creative Services team on multimedia deliverables, and instructional designers, experience designers, and eLearning and XR/VR developers on training content production.
  • Create consistency across large-scale content sets through the creation of project-specific templates, naming logic, and reusable elements as a standard part of your workflows and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in information architecture, content architecture, learning architecture, systems analysis, technical communication, or related fields.
  • Fluency with leading documentation, publishing, mapping, and content modeling tools such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign and FrameMaker, Obsidian, Notion, SharePoint, Miro, Lucidchart, Visio, Airtable, etc…or the ability to demonstrate effectiveness with your own toolkit.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, clarity of communication, and analytical precision.
  • Demonstrated experience transforming messy, confusing or poorly presented content into more effective information systems or instructional materials.
  • Demonstrated experience synthesizing high volumes of complex information from diverse, inconsistent sources.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Either an intuitive understanding of or formal training in cognitive psychology principles (chunking, cognitive load, hierarchy, mental models).
  • Skilled in leveraging AI for research, processing, synthesis, logic‑checking, and QA.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience in EdTech, L&D, instructional design, knowledge management, or publishing.
  • Familiarity with LMSs, LXPs, CMSs or robust project management systems.
  • Familiarity with video production processes, XR/VR development, eLearning tools, or UX design.
