JOB SUMMARY

As a Senior Instructor (Nonprofit Programs) with Denver Test Prep, you’ll play a key role in helping students achieve life-changing growth — both in their academic coursework and on standardized tests. Our tutors work primarily 1-on-1 with students, providing highly customized instruction that boosts confidence and helps students reach their long-term educational goals. In this role, you will support students to develop their executive functioning skills, improve their understanding of course content, and boost their ACT and SAT scores. A significant portion of your job includes bringing these services to the students we serve via our nonprofit partnerships and our ACHieve Scholarship. Denver Test Prep is committed to the nonprofit work we do - last year we supported 876 students through 44 nonprofit and school programs.

You’ll spend most of your time meeting students in person (homes, offices, libraries), coaching students to academic success, teaching strategy-driven content, tracking student progress, and communicating clearly with families and our team. While the position offers significant schedule flexibility, expect to work afternoons, evenings, and at least one weekend day each week during the school year. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver high-quality, 1-on-1 instruction in the following areas: 1) academic coaching, 2) ACT/SAT test prep, and 3) academic tutoring
• Lead group nonprofit programs for middle and high school students; group programs will include test prep, academic tutoring, writing instruction, and academic coaching.
• Build executive functioning systems with students, including organization strategies, study planning, time management structures, and accountability routines.
• Help students set meaningful academic goals and create action plans to achieve them, while coaching students in self-advocacy and academic confidence.
• Develop customized lesson plans and adjust instruction based on student progress and needs, integrating both content instruction and skill development.
• Maintain clear and professional communication with families and Denver Test Prep leadership, providing regular updates on student progress and session outcomes.
• Manage scheduling directly with families, coordinating session times and locations across the Denver and Boulder metro areas.
• Drive to in-person tutoring sessions at homes, offices, libraries, and other agreed-upon locations.
• Track and document student performance, session notes, and key milestones to ensure students stay on track toward their goals.

COMPENSATION

$62,000-$68,000 total compensation (adjusted for part time)

MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of a 4-year college or university. STEM major and/or a graduate degree preferred.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 for STEM majors or 3.3 for liberal arts majors in the most recent degree completed.
• Ability to achieve a top 2% score on the ACT and SAT (measured by an official practice test later in the interview process).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• 2+ years of teaching or tutoring experience that includes working with high school students and group or classroom teaching experience.
• Candidates must excel at working with middle and high school students.
• Ability to work with elementary age students preferred but not required.
• Experience coaching or mentoring students in school programs, sports programs, or other nonprofit youth organizations.
• Background in intervention, special education (SPED), or youth mental health support preferred.
• Demonstrated experience building students’ executive functioning skills such as organization, time management, and planning systems.
• Candidates must have a flexible, strengths-based mindset for coaching students and families.
• Strong track record of clear and effective communication with diverse stakeholders.
• Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to form and maintain meaningful connections with DTP clients and non-profit partners.
• Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks independently and within a team setting.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with the initiative to drive projects from inception to completion.

REQUIRED COURSE CONTENT KNOWLEDGE

• Candidates must be able to tutor middle and high school math, including Algebra I and Algebra II.
• Candidates must be able to support middle school and high school students with essay organization, editing, and proofreading.

HOURS AND SCHEDULE

A significant portion of this role is dedicated to teaching and tutoring students outside of normal school hours. As a result, this role will require consistent availability Monday-Thursday from 2pm-9pm plus one full workday on the weekend. Most of our full-time team works Sunday-Thursday with Friday and Saturday as their "weekend", although other combinations of days are possible. DTP team members have quite a bit of flexibility during weekday school hours and use this time for a mix of remote work, meetings, and personal time.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
