Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer – Charleston, WV
Our client is seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to work within their facilities located in Charleston, WV, for a long-term assignment.
We’re looking for a Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to take charge of complex, multidisciplinary projects and guide high-performing teams from concept through commissioning. This role requires both technical excellence and leadership, ensuring safety, quality, and innovation at every stage. You’ll be the go-to expert shaping control strategies, mentoring engineers, and driving successful project delivery.
Job Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and grow a team of instrumentation, controls, and electrical engineers.

Define scopes, objectives, and budgets in alignment with department leadership.

Oversee design and analysis of key systems, including:

Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
-
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
-
Safety Integrated Systems (SIS)
-
Direct development of loop diagrams, indexes, cable schedules, and marshalling layouts.

Contribute to P&ID development and instrument specifications.

Guide construction drawing packages to meet industry and company standards.

Conduct design reviews, manage change control, and enforce quality standards.

Support procurement, installation, and commissioning activities.

Represent engineering in client and stakeholder meetings with progress reports and technical insights.

Stay current with industry regulations and emerging technologies.

Foster technical growth and capability building across the team.
Required Skills:
-
Strong knowledge of instrumentation (level, pressure, flow, analyzers) and control platforms (ABB, Honeywell, DeltaV, Ovation, Allen-Bradley)

Experience drafting control narratives for programmers and working with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and SIL calculations.

Proficiency with engineering tools and software such as:

InstruCalc, SPI, Aveva Instrumentation, Fisher Spec Manager, SILsolver

AutoCAD, MicroStation, Navisworks

Microsoft Office Suite

Excellent communication skills and fluency in professional English.
Education/Experience:
-
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, or Chemical Engineering.

10+ years of progressive experience in instrumentation & controls engineering, ideally in polymers, power generation, or related industries.

Preferred: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Virginia (or the US) or equivalent certification/qualification.
