POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Interior Designer is responsible for development, implementation, and creation of project design concepts for all levels of interior design projects. This role provides design continuity and design leadership through the entire project by developing the initial design concept/narrative and coordinating with other team members to further develop design through schematic design, design development, and construction phases. Moreover, it is essential for the Senior Interior Designer to support IIG’s continuous learning environment by mentoring or sharing his or her knowledge with entry and mid-level designers. Team building and persuasive design leadership are crucial elements within this role. This individual is expected to demonstrate professionalism and sound judgement, as well alignment with IIG’s core values, guiding principles, and processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
DESIGN
- Proven knowledge of hotel standards, fire codes, and ADA accessibility requirements for interiors
- Lead assigned design team to develop design narrative, providing concept and research direction for assigned projects
- Lead assigned projects (and/or manage depending on assigned role) from conceptual design through construction administration with minimal supervision for the design and FF&E related aspects of the project. Complete required deliverables with the assistance of team members.
- Lead design charettes for assigned projects
- Possess strong sketching, programming, and floor planning skills
- Possess strong presentation skills in small and large group setting and/or via virtual conference calls. Note: SR ID may be asked to present entirely to client or conduct calls without the presence of design leadership.
- Prepare PDF plans, FF&E and concept imagery presentations, and material palettes
- Possess a finely tuned eye for color, texture, and pattern with knowledge of durability standards, installation, construction methods, etc.
- Select interior finishes and furnishings, communicating with manufacturer’s representatives to research material selection costs and specification information to ensure appropriate selections are made for the project budget with minimal direction from design leadership
- Produce and manage graphic content and layouts for digital design presentations using InDesign and Photoshop with the assistance of the Level 1 & 2 designers
- Possess strong technical knowledge for creating specifications and installation coordination of FF&E furnishings, decorative lighting, and other related interior design contract documents with a proven knowledge of contract hospitality sourcing and suppliers
- Write and review FF&E & Finish Specifications using DesignSpec with minimal direction and oversight from design leadership
- Possess expert knowledge of producing, reviewing, and maintaining design drawing documentation (i.e. - floor and ceiling plans, elevations, schedules, and details) with minimal direction from design leadership
- Creates FF&E estimates in DesignSpec software program and Excel with minimal direction from design leadership (when required)
- Participate in on-site field measures or site visits individually or with design leadership
- Review and respond to POs, RFIs, shop drawings, and submittals with minimal oversight from design leadership
- Ensure design conforms to contractual agreement with client and sub-consultants with minimal direction. Notify senior design leadership when there is an item that does not conform with your understanding of the scope or responsibility of IIG.
- Provide adequate notes and download to team for next steps
- Ensure continuity and consistency of design deliverables by reviewing and redlining all work for design aesthetic, accuracy, and completeness
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
- Work directly with the Project Manager(s) and Design leadership to prepare and maintain project task assignments, ensure design deliverables are met, and report project status and team needs
- Assist in the maintenance and content for the Project Tracker each week for the purposes of managing the design and FF&E deliverables for the project. NOTE: Technical drawing deliverables and project timeline will fall under the Project Manager(s) responsibilities unless senior designer is also acting as the PM for the project.
- Hone understanding of project profitability and work with the design leadership to manage project profitably
- Maintain day-to-day correspondence with internal and external sources
- Model and lead a highly organized approach to the design process resulting in on-time, on-budget deliverables
- Manage communication of project team members including meeting minutes, email documentation, and transmittals.
- Correspond and coordinate with consultants (lighting, operation, and technical) and assist in the VE (value engineering) process with guidance from design leadership. NOTE: Project Manager will be responsible for the technical oversight of the project
- Understand, implement, and refine processes and tools to reduce risks and exposure to the firm.
- Serve as an effective, timely decision maker
- Effectively and proactively coach, mentor, and provide performance enhancing feedback to team members.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION | LICENSING | EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design (required)
- NCIDQ (preferred)
- LEED-AP (desirable)
- State License (Florida) (preferred)
- Minimum of 5 -10 years of hospitality design experience (preferred)

- Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop & InDesign (full proficiency)
