About the Role
The Senior Librarian will play a pivotal role in managing, organising, evaluating, and disseminating academic information resources. You will support students, researchers, and academic staff by ensuring access to high-quality physical and digital resources, while developing innovative library services aligned with the University’s academic vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage library collections, including books, journals, and electronic resources
- Select, acquire, catalogue, and organise information using library management systems
- Develop and maintain engaging online and digital library resources
- Deliver information literacy and digital literacy training to students and staff
- Support academic departments with reading lists, course development, and research needs
- Conduct literature searches and assist researchers using databases and online tools
- Manage archives and special collections where applicable
- Oversee library budgets and procurement of resources within allocated areas
- Manage library operations, including flexible opening hours and staff supervision
- Organise library events and initiatives to promote engagement and usage
- Liaise regularly with academic staff, curriculum leaders, and senior management
- Maintain strong relationships with external suppliers and professional networks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, or
- Master’s in Education plus Bachelor’s in Library/Information Science,
- or
- Postgraduate Diploma in Librarianship (CILIP accredited or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant senior management experience in an academic higher education library
- Desirable: Experience within GCC or UK-style higher education institutions
