The Senior Librarian position is a Branch Supervisor role. The MCCF Library offers a full range of services to incarcerated individuals, including legal reference resources, materials, educational support, self-help and general popular interest reading materials for personal enrichment. The MCCF Library supports Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR) Programs and Services re-entry initiatives. A suitable candidate for this position will balance passion for working in a carceral environment and its unique challenges to ensure best practice library services.Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. Additional multi lingual pay may be available after successfully passing a multilingual examination.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Your primary duties will include: Oversee day-to-day operations of the MCCF Library BranchProvide direct supervision of library staff to include training or recommendations for training as necessaryMaintain service statisticsRoutinely communicate to MCPL administration the status of MCCF Library operations and need for support as necessaryRoutinely communicate to the DOCR Deputy Warden for Programs and Services for clarity and support regarding library service in the context of DOCR policies and proceduresRoutinely communicate and collaborate with MCPL Collection Management for ongoing MCCF Library general collection development, as well as legal resources both digital and in printServe on MCPL leadership committees and initiatives that may enhance MCCF branch operationsParticipate in professional organizations and associations with a correctional library service componentLiaise with DOCR and MCPL to support the vision and mission of both departments in the context of library serviceSuccessful Candidates will: Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices in public service. Value building collaborative relationships with community members and organizations, as well as colleagues across MCPL.Be responsive to the emerging needs of Montgomery County residents, developing and delivering programs and services that reflect the unique needs of an incarcerated population.Flexible, adaptable, and eager to implement changes to better serve our incarcerated communityAble to communicate effectively with diverse audiences through a variety of platformsReady to grasp new technologies and train staff to use these technologiesComfortable in developing, presenting, and evaluating training, virtually and in personAn empathetic listener who enjoys understanding and responding to the needs of customers and staffReady to understand the part your branch plays in the Department and the role the Department plays in County governmentHours for this position: All employees should expect to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours; however, the MCCF Library is currently open on weekdays. The MCCF Library schedule could change at any time to include evening or weekend hours with sufficient notice.
