Position Summary
The Senior Manager of the Controls department leads a dynamic team of project managers and field technicians, driving operational excellence and business growth for the Controls division. Reporting to the VP of Service, this role is responsible for building and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and championing technical innovation. The Senior Manager leverages deep industry expertise to identify and implement process enhancements that maximize profitability, reduce costs, and elevate service quality. Through strategic leadership and collaboration, this position ensures the Controls department consistently meets and exceeds business objectives while delivering exceptional value to customers.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the Controls department to consistently achieve operations goals, including but not limited to maintaining the department budget targets, construction and service revenue and operating margin plans, and performance against departmental KPI’s.
  • Collaborate with both internal and external customers in order to plan, schedule, and manage project and service objectives, delivering to agreed budgets, timeframes, and work commitments.
  • Provide technical expertise and sales support to drive business development initiatives and support ongoing sales efforts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring high levels of satisfaction through effective communication and issue resolution.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing process and procedural enhancements that increase profitability and service quality.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members, fostering professional growth and alignment with the company values.
  • Condut regular performance management conversations, setting clear objectives and providing actional feedback to direct reports.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 7 years of progressively increasing responsibilities in building automation systems leadership roles.
  • Excellent leadership, people management, communication, and influencing skills.
  • 7 years experience in building automation systems, building, and construction processes.
  • Financially literate with a strong understanding of project profitability, financial forecasting, project billings, and cost-to-complete estimates.
  • 2 years experience in successfully leading projects and programs on schedule and within budget.
  • Working knowledge of optimization techniques and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to manage, collaborate with, and influence key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to drive for results and accountability.
  • Demonstrates decisiveness in resolving business problems, making decisions, and identifying priorities
  • Strong organizational skills and highly detail oriented.
  • Good negotiation techniques and the ability to be persuasive.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), LEED, PMP/PgMP are a plus.
  • Experience in HVAC, plumbing, or building automation service environments.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Advanced skills in digital project management or data analytics.
