Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Data Science (Analytics) to lead analytics for eBay Live Buyer Experience — a real-time livestream commerce platform and a key pillar of eBay’s next-generation shopping experiences.

eBay Live enables interactive, auction-driven shopping across Collectibles, Luxury, Sneakers, and Apparel, combining entertainment, discovery, and commerce in real time. As a relatively new product, eBay Live Buyer Experience presents a unique opportunity to define foundational analytics, shape product direction, and scale insights as the platform grows.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will personally drive complex, high-impact analytics while building and developing a team. You will work closely with product, engineering, design, and business leaders to ensure data and experimentation guide buyer experience, engagement, conversion, and long-term retention.

This role is ideal for an analytics leader who thrives in early-stage, fast-moving environments, enjoys ambiguity, and can balance deep analytical work with team leadership and execution.

Key Responsibilities

Buyer Experience Analytics Ownership (Hands-on)

  • Own end-to-end analytics for eBay Live Buyer Experience, including:

    • Buyer discovery, engagement, and session behavior

    • Real-time bidding, auction dynamics, and purchase flows

    • Conversion, funnel performance, and drop-off diagnostics

    • Buyer retention, repeat participation, and lifetime value

  • Personally lead complex analyses that shape early product and UX decisions

  • Build analytical frameworks suited to real-time, event-driven user behavior

  • Ensure analytics outputs directly inform product prioritization and iteration

Foundational Metrics & Product Analytics

  • Define and standardize core buyer experience metrics and success KPIs

  • Establish product analytics foundations, including funnels, cohorts, and experimentation frameworks

  • Build dashboards and self-serve tools to support rapid decision-making

  • Partner with engineering to influence event instrumentation and data quality from day one

People Leadership & Team Building

  • Build, manage, and develop a high-performing analytics team supporting Buyer Experience

  • Provide hands-on mentorship through analysis, modeling, and insight reviews

  • Set a high bar for analytical rigor, speed, and product intuition

  • Hire and develop talent capable of operating in ambiguity and fast iteration cycles

Execution, Prioritization & Operating Model

  • Translate evolving buyer experience strategy into a clear, prioritized analytics roadmap

  • Balance immediate product questions with longer-term analytics and measurement investments

  • Establish lightweight processes that enable speed while maintaining analytical integrity

  • Drive alignment across stakeholders on metrics, tradeoffs, and success criteria

Advanced Analytics & Experimentation

  • Lead and contribute to advanced analytics such as:

    • Buyer segmentation and personalization opportunities

    • Engagement and conversion propensity modeling

    • Feature impact measurement and experimentation

    • Funnel optimization and UX diagnostics

  • Partner closely with product teams to design and interpret experiments

AI-Enabled & Real-Time Insights

  • Explore and apply AI and LLM-based analytics to enhance buyer diagnostics and insight generation

  • Experiment hands-on with automated insight and real-time monitoring solutions

  • Scale AI-driven analytics approaches as eBay Live grows

Strategic Insights & Executive Communication

  • Synthesize insights across buyer behavior, product performance, and experimentation into clear narratives

  • Influence product roadmap, UX strategy, and investment decisions through data-backed recommendations

  • Act as a trusted analytics advisor to eBay Live leadership

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with product, engineering, design, and marketing teams

  • Align buyer experience analytics with broader marketplace and growth strategies

  • Represent Buyer Experience analytics in cross-functional and leadership forums

Required Qualifications

  • 11–15 years of experience delivering analytics and data science solutions, including product or growth analytics

  • 3–6+ years of experience managing and developing analytics or data science teams

  • Strong hands-on expertise in Python and SQL, with the ability to personally own complex analyses

  • Deep experience with product analytics, experimentation, and behavioral data

  • Proven ability to define analytics frameworks and metrics from scratch

  • Experience working with large-scale, event-level or real-time datasets

  • Strong problem-framing skills in ambiguous environments

  • Excellent communication and executive storytelling skills

  • Ability to balance speed, rigor, and scalability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with livestream, real-time, marketplace, or interactive commerce platforms

  • Familiarity with modern data stack tools (e.g., Snowflake, Airflow, dbt)

  • Experience applying AI/LLM-based analytics in product or decisioning contexts

  • Exposure to personalization, recommendations, or UX analytics

  • Experience working in early-stage or 0 1 product environments
