Senior Manager, Participant Experience

What You'll Do:
We’re looking for a Senior Manager to join our Participant Experience/ Education Strategy team in Retirement and Income Solutions(RIS). In this role, you’ll provide leadership and oversight for Participant Experience teams that partner with plan sponsors, financial professionals, and internal service team to design and deliver education and engagement strategies across retirement programs, including plan-related education and outreach. Accountable for operational success, consistent delivery, and cross-functional coordination to drive participation and savings rates, improve retirement readiness and financial wellness, and deliver measurable participant outcomes while meeting regulatory and service standards. Partners closely with distribution, product, marketing, legal, compliance, operations, and other stakeholders to support client satisfaction, retention, and growth through Principal offerings.

  • Operational Leadership & Delivery: Lead planning and coordination across multiple Participant Experience teams, roles,and/or client-specific programs to ensure effective execution of engagement strategies, campaigns, and education solutions. Oversee the implementation of new engagement capabilities, workflows, tools, or systems in partnership with business, technology, and client‑facing teams. Monitor operational and engagement performance (including delivery quality, adherence to standards, service commitments, and risk controls), identify gaps, and implement corrective actions to support consistent, high‑quality execution. Ensure continuity across day‑to‑day operations, issue escalations, and interdependent processes that impact the plan sponsor and participant experience.
  • Strategic Alignment: Translate participant engagement communications goals into actionable plans aligned with broader business priorities, client needs, and growth objectives. Drive initiatives that improve scalability, effectiveness, and consistency of engagement delivery across channels. Partner with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams to support engagement delivery planning and execution. Stay attuned to client needs, emerging trends, and operational or regulatory considerations, adjusting execution plans as needed to maintain alignment with service standards and business objectives.
  • People & Financial Management:Lead through senior contributors, providing performance coaching, development support, and workforce planning within assigned teams. Support talent development and readiness for next‑level roles. Manage a portion of the engagement program budget, as applicable, ensuring responsible use of resources and cost efficiency. Promote compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management standards while balancing client experience and operational outcomes.

  • Take on special assignments as needed based on business needs.

Who You Are:
  • 6+ years of related experience in participant engagement, education strategy, client consulting, financial services, or equivalent work experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, or education required
  • 2+ years of indirect or informal leadership experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and influence highly professional teams, partners, and stakeholders to drive performance, accountability, and consistent results
  • Proven experience leading engagement or service operations, with a track record of improving outcomes, service quality, and client or participant experience
  • Strong capability to translate business strategy and priorities into actionable, scalable engagement plans that drive consistent, high‑quality execution
  • Advanced problem‑solving and decision‑making skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and resolve complex issues through cross‑functional partnership
  • Demonstrated success building credibility and influencing senior leaders and cross‑functional partners (e.g., distribution, product, marketing, legal, operations)
  • Experience assessing operational and regulatory risk and balancing compliance, service standards, and experience goals
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, including executive-level audiences
  • Ability to travel up to 20–30%, including overnight stays
Salary Range Information: Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salary Range: $104400 - $187200 / year Salary Details:

    • Senior Manager, Participant Experience: $116,000 - $156,000 / year
    • Assistant Director, Participant Experience: $127,000 - $171,000 / year
  • Des Moines, IA:
    • Senior Manager, Participant Experience: $110,200 - $148,200 / year
    • Assistant Director, Participant Experience: $127,000 - $171,000 / year
  • Chicago/Minneapolis:
    • Senior Manager, Particpant Experience: $127,600 - $171,600 / year
    • Assistant Director, Participant Experience: $127,000 - $171,000 / year
  • Los Angeles/New York City:
    • Senior Manager, Participant Experience: $139,200 - $187,200 / year
    • Assistant Director, Participant Experience: $127,000 - $171,000 / year
  • Grand Island, NE:
    • Senior Manager, Participant Experience: $104,400 - $140,400 / year
    • Assistant Director, Participant Experiencie: $127,000 - $171,000 / year
Time Off Program: Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Work Environments

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, Raleigh, NC or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.

Job Level

We’ll consider talent at the next level with the right experiences and skills. Assistant Director, Partcipant Experience level requires 8+ years of related experience in participant engagement, education strategy, client consulting, financial services, or a related field and 3+ years of people leadership experience required
