Overview

Senior, Marine Hand I is responsible for performing a range of general tasks to support the safe and efficient operation of vessels and rigs. This includes participation in dry docking activities, routine maintenance of LOB, mooring and unmooring operations, cargo handling, cleaning, and helping with both marine and port operations, as well as general dockside support. The role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe execution of docking and undocking procedures and contributes to the overall maintenance, preparedness, and operational readiness of marine assets and associated infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in mooring and unmooring operations of vessels and rigs using proper line handling techniques.
  • Handle ropes, wires, and fenders during docking and undocking activities to ensure vessel safety.
  • Support rigging and lifting operations under supervision, including preparation and securing of loads.
  • Perform general housekeeping and maintenance of dockside areas, bollards, fenders, and marine equipment.
  • Set up and remove gangways, ladders, access platforms, and safety barriers as required.
  • Assist in the preparation, positioning, and removal of docking blocks and cribbing materials.
  • Follow instructions from Dock Superintendent and Dock Master during marine operations.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are used safely, maintained properly, and stored in designated areas.
  • Report any unsafe conditions, near misses, or equipment malfunctions immediately to supervisors.
  • Participate in emergency drills and respond to incidents in accordance with IMI procedures.
  • Support the deployment and retrieval of floating assets such as pontoons, buoys, and hoses.
  • Assist in the inspection and minor maintenance of mooring equipment and rigging gear.
  • Coordinate with other marine and yard teams to ensure smooth workflow and timely task execution.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture by adhering to IMI's HSE policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior marine hands and new joiners.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, equipment usage, and incidents as required.
  • Support environmental protection measures by ensuring proper waste disposal and spill prevention.
  • Operate small utility boats or tugs under supervision, if certified and authorized.
  • Assist in the mobilization and demobilization of marine equipment for projects or vessel movements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting enhancements to procedures and work practices.
