Senior Marketing and Communications Manager
The Senior Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for creating and executing marketing and communications plans for United Way of Buffalo & Erie County’s various programs, events and initiatives to drive awareness, understanding, and support of United Way of Buffalo & Erie County. This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and collaborates within the Marketing and Communications team as well as cross-departmentally.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Marketing and Communications Execution:

    • Support the overall marketing strategy of United Way in alignment with its mission, vision, and values.
    • Collaborate with Vice President of Marketing and Communications to develop and implement multi-channel marketing plans and strategies to advance organizational goals and brand identity.
    • Support the development of United Way’s annual marketing and communications calendar across various events and programs.
    • Manage the execution of United Way’s digital marketing and social media programs, including content, channel and engagement strategies. Ensure consistent and timely posting across platforms.
    • Monitor, analyze and report on the performance of marketing programs and events to inform future strategies.


  • Internal Brand Capacity Building:
    • Engage internal stakeholders in internal brand education and communication
    • Manage agendas and participate in meetings of the United Way Board Marketing Committee.
    • Ensure United Way staff is prepared for media events, public speaking, community education, and presentations.


  • Content Creation and Oversight:
    • Oversee the development and production of marketing materials for various events and initiatives.
    • Serve as internal editor for all public-facing communications including digital content, advertising, marketing materials, special events and public education campaigns.
    • Provide videography as needed


  • Workflow and Project Management:
    • Manage day-to-day marketing operations to ensure initiatives are completed on time
    • Work cross functionally to ensure that departments across the organization have sufficient project management support.
    • Assist in managing vendor relationships to ensure maximum value for spend
    • Provide support as needed to coordinate media operations both on-site and at events.


  • Staff and Budget Management:
    • Assist Vice President of Marketing and Communications to recruit, hire, develop and support diverse marketing and communications team members and independent consultants as needed.
    • Assist the Vice President of Marketing and Communications in monitoring budgets and cost centers including purchasing and vendor approval processes on behalf of the department.


  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Visibly demonstrate United Way’s values of service, integrity, collaboration, accountability, equity, and agility
    • Participate in mandatory meetings and training programs
    • Performs other duties as requested

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with 5+ years of work related experience or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in developing effective marketing and communications plans, advertising materials, and digital campaigns to reach diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in relevant software packages including Adobe Creative Suite and Wordpress
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity.
  • Contribute to an inclusive working and learning environment by welcoming diverse perspectives, acting as a change agent and considering outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work on diverse cross-functional teams in both leadership and member roles.
  • Exceptional presentation and writing skills.
  • Skilled at crafting and delivering compelling stories in a variety of formats.
  • Ability to simplify complex information and clearly communicate through multiple communication channels to diverse audiences.
  • Social media experience.
  • Ability to successfully delegate and provide team members with growth opportunities.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and is a relationship builder.
  • Videography experience is a plus.
  • Travel is primarily within the eight counties of Western New York. Some domestic travel may be required for job training and professional development.
