JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is an experienced engineer who is recognized as a leader within the company in his/her area of expertise. This position plays a critical role in improving and establishing new engineering practices and standards throughout the company. This position also provides direction and guidance to other less experienced engineers and frequently interacts with other industry professionals. In addition, this position requires frequent interactions with internal and external customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Leads the development and/or improvement of Douglas engineering standards for an area of concern (analysis and design).

Creates new processes, standards and applies new technology.

Record test results and recommendations on development projects.

Facilitates product developments, mock-ups and perform tests as required.

Performs engineering analysis on critical structure and function areas.

Possesses the ability to manage difficult projects (go-to person).

Required to review customer specifications.

Mentors and coaches new engineers.
-
Produces engineering/design concepts for assigned machines/projects.

Involved in developing machine standards/practices and introducing new machine concepts.

Provides guidance and work direction for team members (Designers, Engineers, Assistant Designers and/or Detailers).

Maintains project schedules and completes assigned projects within allocated hours.

Promotes, utilizes and improves corporate processes:
- Design and Development

Verification and Validation

Engineering Change Control
-
Risk Assessment for all machine designs
- Required to travel.

Completes the performance reviews for individuals assigned to his/her design team.

Responsible for complying with all safety policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and a minimum of 7 years work experience or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and a minimum of 5 years work experience, or equivalent education and/or work experience.

Requires demonstrated success in the designing of packaging machinery.
