Senior Mechanical Engineer - Afghanistan based gas-fired Power Plant

Job Purpose

The Senior Mechanical Engineer ensures that the Bayat Power SGT-A45 Generation Facility, located in Jowzjan Afghanistan, and equipment are maintained in a safe and efficient manner while making sure that all applicable statutory and non-statutory requirements are complied with and recorded. The job purpose of a Senior Mechanical Engineer is to ensure mechanical equipment, machinery, and systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently by performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing faults, and implementing improvements to minimize downtime and optimize performance in industrial, manufacturing, and commercial settings. They keep the core operations running smoothly through proactive care and reactive fixes, focusing on asset reliability and production continuity.

Management and Professional Experiences：

1. A minimum of 10 years of experience in a simple/combined cycle power plant environment; technical training and previous success in performing technical functions in a power plant environment.

2. Effective communication skills.

3. Highly skilled and dedicated Mechanical engineer with accurate and precise attention to very minor details.

4. Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

5. Familiarity with the operation of basic industrial operational systems and industrial equipment that are used to install, repair and manage industry equipment.

Professional Knowledge and Personal Attributes：

1. Deep power plant mechanical maintenance knowledge, skills, and work abilities.

2. Deep knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, rotating equipment (turbines, pumps,compressors), heaters, boilers piping, etc and CMMS software.

3. Good foundation and practical knowledge of power plant operations, preferably including mechanical systems.

4. Thorough understanding of Gas Turbine plant operating practices.

5. Ability and experience in recognizing fault conditions in field equipment e.g. by temperature, smell, vibration, color changes, noises, etc.

6. Ability to understand and read mechanical P&IDs, technical manuals, schematics, and logics.

7. Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication, and project management.

8. Expertise in Industrial Safety protocols (LOTO, Hot Work Permit, Work at height, Confined Space, etc)

9. Ability to be efficient and adapt to think creatively, and manage multiple projects.

10. Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

11. Ability to make clear and competent decisions in emergency situations.

12. Extensive experience in Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning start-up, Troubleshooting, and Operation & Maintenance (CM,PM,EM) projects in a different gas turbines.

13. Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities so as to use time efficiently.

Duties And Responsibilities

· Guide the maintenance team on plant Mechanical maintenance activities, such as identifying, analyzing, and resolving conditions that can impact the power generation process

· Monitor and evaluate Mechanical equipment and system performance by examining the results of condition-monitoring devices, and reviewing equipment failure history databases.

· Understand and able to manage the CMMS such as FiiX and how to follow up Work Orders, Service Requests, and parts store codes purchasing process.

· Guide the maintenance team in Troubleshooting and repair of Mechanical works and provide further technical assistance to prevent and resolve Mechanical problems of the plants which is aimed at improving plant performance.

· Analyze failures, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and recommend improvements for Mechanical /I&C systems.

· Ensure Company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures are implemented and carried out.

· Participate in the coordinated effort to maintain a long-term view of plant performance, foresees issues that could impact long-term plant performance, and develop strategies to address these issues.

· Provide advanced technical guidance, solve complex problems, and review repair reports.

· Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and design, operation, and maintenance requirements.

· Record and compile maintenacne data by completing and maintaining logs, or reports.

· Clean, lubricate/grease, or maintain equipment, such as generators, pumps, or compressors, to prevent failure or deterioration.

· Take regulatory action, based on readings from charts, meters, and gauges, at established intervals.

· Inspect records or log book entries or communicate with plant personnel to assess equipment operating status.

· Take first-han initiation in providing an all-around effort of Mechanical maintenance works proactively for the effective operations of the plant.

· Assist in preparing detailed reports based on findings and actions taken during new erection, rehabilitation, overhaul, repair, and troubleshooting of gas turbines and auxiliary equipment.

· Maintain all plant equipment to a high standard to maximize plant availability, reliability, and efficiency.

· Maintain, update, and develop plant maintenance procedures, documentation, drawings, databases, etc.

· Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, test, and retrofit or install plant components as assigned.

· Provide technical expertise to customers, service support, field technicians and operators.

· Provide timely and accurate internal and external reports.

· Develop and implement preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance plans

· Lead in the preparation of the technical specification during the spare part purchase of Mechanical equipment of the power plant.

· Conduct routine inspections to identify deficiencies, perform operational repairs, and perform necessary housekeeping tasks.

· Carry out scheduled maintenance of all auxiliary equipment such as compressors, fuel and piping systems, oil and Lubricating systems, air and exhaust systems, demisters, Motors, Pumps, filters, Coolers, Heaters, fans, valves, gauges, strainers, using right tools and in compliance with health & safety regulations.

· Executes all instructions given by the supervisor for maintenance activities of the power plant equipment.

· Place standby emergency electrical generator (BSDG) online in emergencies and monitor the temperature, output, and lubrication of the system as well as perform other maintenance such as routine maintenance and scheduled maintenance on BSDG.

· Performs other duties as required.

· Dismantle, Overhauling, Functional Checks, Commissioning for Auxiliary (Accessories), Turbine, Generator, BOP System, KOD, Filters, etc

· Ensure adherence to safety, operational standards, codes.

· Assist with capital improvement budgets and cost justifications.

· Ensure that all equipment installation are established on standard procedure as per quality plan.

· Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.

· May be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our Bayat Power’s vision and align with our organization s core values.
