Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Plumbing & Fire Protection – Design)

1. Purpose of the Role

To lead the design, coordination, and delivery of plumbing and fire protection systems for construction projects, ensuring efficient, compliant, and high-quality engineering solutions aligned with project requirements and international standards.

2. Key Responsibilities A. Plumbing System Design

• Lead design of domestic water supply, drainage, sewage, storm water, and irrigation systems.
  
• Perform hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, and equipment selection (pumps, tanks, heaters, etc.).
  
• Prepare design layouts, schematics, and detailed drawings.
  

B. Fire Protection System Design

• Design firefighting systems including sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire hose reels, and fire pumps.
  
• Perform hydraulic calculations and system sizing as per NFPA standards .
  
• Prepare detailed design drawings and specifications for fire protection systems.
  

C. Design Coordination

• Coordinate with architectural, structural, and other MEP disciplines.
  
• Ensure proper integration of plumbing and firefighting systems within building design.
  
• Identify and resolve design clashes using BIM tools.
  

D. Codes & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS) , NFPA , and local authority regulations.
  
• Prepare and review design submissions for authority approvals.
  
• Liaise with civil defense and relevant authorities when required.
  

E. Technical Review

• Review and approve shop drawings, material submittal, and method statements.
  
• Respond to RFIs and provide technical clarifications.
  
• Participate in design reviews and value engineering initiatives.
  

F. Construction Support

• Provide technical support during the construction phase.
  
• Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved design.
  
• Support testing & commissioning of plumbing and firefighting systems.
  
  
  
  

Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  
• UPDA/MMUP Certification (mandatory / preferred as per company requirement)
  
• 10–12 years of experience in plumbing & fire protection design within construction projects
  
• Strong experience in consultancy or contractor design environment
  

Technical Skills

• Expertise in plumbing and firefighting system design
  
• Strong knowledge of NFPA codes , IPC/UPC, and local regulations
  
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools
  
• Experience with hydraulic calculation software (e.g., Elite, Pipe Flow, etc.)
