Senior National Driver Recruiter

Position Summary

The Senior National Driver Recruiter is responsible for leading full-cycle recruitment for commercial CDL Class A/B and non-commercial driver positions across the organization. This position partners with Operations, Safety, HR and leadership to source, screen, evaluate, hire qualified drivers for local, regional, over-the-road positions while supporting DOT compliance, candidate experience, pipeline development and recruiting process improvements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment for CDL Class A/B and non-commercial driver positions, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, selection support, offer coordination and onboarding follow-up.
  • Source and proactively build qualified driver pipelines through multiple channels, including job boards, social media, referrals, trucking schools, vocational programs, community outreach and re-engagement of past applicants.
  • Screen resumes and applications, conduct phone screens, and perform behavioral and competency-based interviews to evaluate candidate qualifications, experience, safety history and overall fit.
  • Manage the candidate experience from initial outreach through offer acceptance and onboarding by maintaining timely communication, setting clear expectations and representing the company professionally.
  • Verify driver qualifying documentation, including Commercial Driver’s License, medical certificates, employment history and other required documentation in accordance with DOT and company requirements.
  • Order and review motor vehicle records, PSP reports, background checks, and drug and alcohol screening results; evaluate findings against company hiring standards and safety criteria to support hiring recommendations.
  • Partner with Directors, Logistics Managers, Safety and HR to forecast driver staffing needs, define position requirements and develop targeted recruiting strategies for local, regional, OTR, flatbed, and other driver roles.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Operations and Safety leadership to ensure alignment on hiring priorities, driver qualifications, compliance requirements and business needs.
  • Develop and execute recruiting events, hiring fairs, trucking school outreach, vocational program partnerships and other initiatives to increase company visibility and strengthen the driver recruitment funnel.
  • Monitor recruiting metrics, including time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, offer acceptance rate, source-of-hire, candidate pipeline activity and hiring velocity.
  • Provide recruiting reports, pipeline updates, performance data, and recommendations to leadership to improve recruiting effectiveness and support workforce planning.
  • Partner with Safety and HR to coordinate driver orientation schedules and ensure a smooth transition from candidate to new hire.
  • Create, update, and maintain driver job descriptions, selection criteria, screening tools, and interview guides to support consistent and compliant hiring practices.
  • Lead outreach and re-engagement campaigns for past applicants and inactive driver pools using systems such as Tenstreet, email, SMS, and phone communication.
  • Collaborate with Marketing or other internal partners to execute targeted advertising campaigns and evaluate campaign effectiveness based on applicant quality, hiring metrics, and return on investment.
  • Maintain accurate and timely candidate records, recruiting activity, documentation, and communication notes in applicable recruiting systems.
  • Ensure recruiting processes comply with DOT regulations, company policies, applicable employment laws, and internal hiring standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve recruiting processes, candidate communication, sourcing strategy, and overall hiring efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of recruiting experience required, preferably in driver, transportation, logistics, or high-volume recruitment.
  • Experience recruiting CDL Class A and/or Class B drivers strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of DOT driver qualification requirements, MVRs, PSP reports, background checks, drug and alcohol testing, and driver onboarding preferred.
  • Experience using applicant tracking systems, job boards, recruiting platforms, and candidate communication tools required; Tenstreet experience preferred.
  • Strong sourcing, interviewing, communication, follow-up, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple openings, priorities, deadlines, and candidate pipelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, organization, and ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, reporting tools, and recruiting systems.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, phone, and other office equipment.
  • Frequently required to communicate by phone, email, video conference, and in person with candidates, employees, managers, and external partners.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 25 pounds, such as recruiting materials, event supplies, or office equipment.
  • Must be able to attend recruiting events, job fairs, orientations, meetings, and other company-related events as needed.
  • Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment with standard office equipment and moderate noise levels.
  • Occasional travel may be required for recruiting events, hiring fairs, company meetings, or visits to operating locations.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
