The Senior Park Aide reporting location is at the Coastal Sector Office in Morro Bay State Park. This position will work under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist.
The Senior Park Aide is responsible for data collection and reporting related to federally threatened western snowy plover and Morro shoulderband snails, monarch butterflies, elephant seals, and other sensitive species; and habitat restoration activities including exotic plant removal and native plant propagation, out planting and establishment. Additional responsibilities involve training lower-level seasonal employees and working with the public as a State Parks representative and with an interdisciplinary team.
Specific duties include monitoring the breeding activities of the western snowy plover using ArcGIS applications, fence and sign installation, public outreach, report writing, exotic plant removal via hand, chemical, or mechanical means and native plant collection, propagation, transplanting, maintenance, and watering, and other duties as necessary.
Training will be provided, and activities will involve driving a vehicle. Typical working hours are 7:00am – 3:30pm weekdays depending on operational needs but may also work nights and weekends depending on program/project needs.
This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)
