Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Payload Developer to design, develop, and optimize mission-critical payload software and embedded systems. The ideal candidate will play a key role in payload architecture, real-time data processing, system integration, and performance optimization for advanced aerospace, defense, satellite, or high-reliability embedded platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain payload software for embedded and real-time systems
• Lead payload architecture design, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance
• Implement data acquisition, processing, compression, and telemetry handling algorithms
• Develop low-level software interfacing with sensors, RF modules, and onboard hardware
• Optimize payload performance with respect to power, memory, latency, and throughput
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and systems engineering teams for seamless integration
• Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and validation of payload software
• Support payload bring-up, debugging, and anomaly resolution during testing and operations
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety, and mission requirements
• Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership across payload projects
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and system-level trade studies
• Maintain technical documentation, software specifications, and operational manuals

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics, Aerospace, or related field
• 5+ years of experience in payload or embedded systems development
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded or real-time environments
• Experience with RTOS (VxWorks, FreeRTOS, QNX, or similar)
• Solid understanding of embedded Linux and driver development
• Experience with sensor interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet)
• Knowledge of data handling, signal processing, or image processing pipelines
• Familiarity with onboard data handling (OBDH) and telemetry/telecommand systems
• Experience with debugging tools, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG
• Strong understanding of system-level integration and hardware-software interaction

Preferred Skills (Good to Have)

• Experience in aerospace, satellite, UAV, defense, or space payloads
• Knowledge of communication protocols (CCSDS, SpaceWire, MIL-STD, or similar)
• Exposure to FPGA/SoC-based payload systems
• Experience with Python or scripting for testing and automation
• Familiarity with secure coding practices and fault-tolerant systems
• Understanding of power management and thermal constraints in payload systems
