Overview:
As a Senior Product Designer on the M&T Experience Design & Innovation team, you will lead the creation of secure, unified digital identity experiences across the enterprise. Your work will begin with the consumer retail experience, setting the foundation for enterprise-wide transformation and guiding the Northstar strategy for all lines of business. This role requires a strategic mindset—designing solutions for immediate consumer needs while planning for scalable, long-term impact across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead design for enterprise digital transformation, starting with consumer and scaling across business lines.
Drive design efforts for retail initiatives, setting strategic direction and standards that guide the Northstar vision across the enterprise.
Design CIAM solutions (MFA, password, login, unified account management).
Align design work with Northstar strategy and modernization goals.
Execute phased design, adapting solutions for multiple business areas.
Collaborate with product owners, developers, and vendors.
Ensure compliance with privacy, regulatory, and internal standards.
Envision and design end-state experiences that meet business goals and user needs, informed by research.
Utilize user-centered design methods throughout the product lifecycle to define deliverables and bring experiences to life.
Mentor other Product Designers and build knowledge of design thinking among product teams.
Lead cross-functional teams in design workshops using human-centered and design thinking methodologies.
Perform user/customer research in partnership with the Experience Research team.
Communicate rationale and collaborate with cross-functional peers.
Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the company brand.
Maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit points and regulatory issues as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:
The M&T Experience Design & Innovation team is a multidisciplinary group dedicated to transforming digital experiences across the enterprise. We champion customer centricity and innovative design, driving enterprise-wide change through curiosity and collaboration. Within this team, Enterprise Experience Design leads the vision for identity solutions that prioritize security, operational efficiency, and a unified customer experience. We guide cross-functional teams in tackling CIAM and enterprise login challenges, and continually advance our design toolkit to deliver simple, connected solutions that help customers achieve their financial goals.
Education and Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, HCI, Industrial Design, or related field; or equivalent experience (minimum 7 years combined education and/or relevant product design work experience).
At least 3 years of product/UX design experience, ideally with enterprise platforms, or security-focused environments.
Demonstrated expertise in authentication, identity management, regulatory compliance, and accessibility standards.
Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (Figma, Adobe, Sketch, InVision) and best practices for desktop, mobile, and web applications (JIRA, Confluence).
Strong portfolio showcasing user-centered design, including use cases, flow diagrams, prototypes, scenarios, and wireframes.
Experience designing for diverse digital and non-digital channels, supporting the full product lifecycle from vision to iteration.
Ability to mentor others, collaborate cross-functionally, and lead workshops using tools like Miro and Webex.
Skilled at navigating ambiguity, building stakeholder relationships, and promoting inclusive design.
Education and Experience Preferred
Master’s degree in a related field.
Experience working in the financial industry.
Collaborative experience with Product Managers, Designers, and Marketers.
Advanced proficiency in industry best practices for digital applications and accessibility standards.
Experience supporting product development from vision through launch and iteration.
Experience in financial services industry a plus

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $94,400.00 - $157,400.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
