Position Summary:

The Sr. Planner – Packaging Materials will manage supply chain capabilities to deliver quality packaging materials on time and continually optimize inventory levels to minimize scrap and working capital, while ensuring adequate supply of key materials to run the business. The position includes responsibility for supplying detailed forecasts to suppliers, tracking, and coordinating day-to-day input material shipments. The role will interact with cross functional resources to support innovation projects and business initiatives. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, lean operating environment, leveraging creativity and financial acumen to achieve results through resourcefulness and prioritization.

Primary Position Responsibilities:

  • Review forecasted packaging material requirements and production schedules to ensure timely and accurate material supply across 16+ production lines.
  • Create and manage purchase orders and material releases for all key packaging suppliers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality, Production, Logistics, Marketing, AP and Corporate Procurement.
  • Facilitate material setup requests internally and externally.
  • Execute daily material requirements planning (MRP), monitor Purchase Order (PO) status track inbound materials to ensure on-time delivery and minimal disruption.
  • Provide clear, timely and accurate information with which to make decisions
  • Manage safety stock, reorder points, and order quantities while minimizing scrap
  • Coordinate material flow across domestic and international suppliers supporting facilities in Verona, PA and Phoenix, AZ
  • Lead packaging material inputs for standard costing, annual budgeting, and variance analysis.
  • Project and communicate key commodity cost changes versus the annual budget and recent prices.
  • Efficiently utilize and further enhance key enabling technologies (e.g. MRP system)
  • Track resin rail car movement from supplier to plant to ensure timely receipt
  • Maintain strong, proactive communication with suppliers to ensure alignment and quick problem resolution.


Position Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in supply planning, manufacturing operations, and/or inventory control.
  • Strong skills with key applications such as Excel and MRP systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and multi-task across numerous priorities
  • Experience working with both domestic and imported materials.
  • A strong working knowledge of supply chain, vendor, and supplier management.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean) and principles with a focus on driving cost savings.
  • Data driver with strong analytical, financial, and process management skills.
  • Collaborator with excellent interpersonal and communications skills who has forged effective working relationships with peers.
  • Works well in a team environment in addition to independently.
