In this hands-on position, you'll manage and provide construction oversight for field staff, guiding their performance and development to keep projects on the cutting edge. Dive into resolving complex issues, disputes, and disagreements with sharp analysis and equitable solutions. Develop, assign, and monitor field staff’s performance across assigned projects, ensuring accountability and excellence at every turn.

You'll review project statuses, construction schedules, and overall progress, staying ahead of the curve. Assess change orders from all projects, evaluating their district impact and recommending adjustments. Support regional directors and facilities staff with bid and contract planning, scrutinizing specifications for needs and timeline feasibility. Monitor the construction project database for scheduling and cost variances, verifying payment applications and managing fiscal oversight for multiple projects.

Provide functional direction in critical areas like schedules, cost control, dispute resolution, contract administration, and quality control. Oversee contracts for architects and consultants, while coordinating with departments such as Environmental Health and Safety, Design and A/E Support, Asset Management, Facilities Contract Administration, Inspection, Maintenance and Operations, and local districts. When disputes arise, review and implement recommended actions for swift, fair resolutions. Develop and recommend internal policies and procedures to refine our processes, and handle other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualification:- Years of Experience/Education/Certificates/Training:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field—your rock-solid foundation for pioneering groundbreaking projects.
  • Seventeen (17) years of full-time paid professional experience in project and construction management, honing your skills in high-pressure environments that demand precision and foresight.
  • Five (5) years of experience managing large programs with individual projects valued in excess of $50 million (not cumulative)—demonstrating your ability to orchestrate scale and complexity with unwavering success.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in educational facility construction, public works, or large commercial projects (may include projects outside of California)—showcasing your versatility in diverse, impactful builds.
  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California Architectural Board, or as a Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and/or a valid Construction Manager (CCM) credential by the Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI)—your ticket to leading with credibility and authority.
  • Hands-on design-build experience, where you've seamlessly integrated design and construction for innovative, efficient outcomes.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM), bringing advanced tech to life to enhance collaboration and accuracy on the job site.
  • Experience in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS), championing sustainable, high-performance designs that set new standards.
  • Familiarity with Division of the State Architect (DSA) construction/design processes, ensuring every project meets the highest regulatory and safety benchmarks.

Wage Requirement

  • Salary range for this job is $222,000.00 - $235,000.00. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment
