Position Overview

We are seeking a Property Accountant with 3+ years of experience who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. This role supports the financial operations of a portfolio of properties, with a strong focus on accuracy, transparency, and partnership with both internal teams and clients.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and operates with a high level of ownership and accountability. You bring strong accounting fundamentals, sound judgment, and hands-on experience in property or real estate accounting. This role sits close to the day-to-day financial activity of our properties and requires someone who can ensure accuracy, resolve issues quickly, and help improve how accounting and operations work together.

AppFolio experience is strongly preferred; candidates with experience in Yardi or similar systems—and the ability to quickly learn new platforms—will also be considered.

We’re ultimately looking for someone who takes initiative, solves problems with minimal direction, and is motivated to continuously improve processes and outcomes.

What You’ll Do

The Property Accountant plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of a property portfolio, with a focus on financial accuracy, owner reporting, and transaction oversight. You’ll work closely with operations teams to ensure clean financials, resolve issues efficiently, and improve accounting workflows.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership, working cross-functionally, digging into issues independently, and driving process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accuracy & Reporting

  • Prepare and deliver accurate, timely owner statements and property financial reports
  • Ensure integrity of financial data across property portfolios
  • Investigate discrepancies and resolve issues quickly and effectively

Month-End Close & Reconciliation

  • Reconcile trust accounts and security deposit accounts
  • Identify and resolve variances to ensure clean and accurate financials

Operational Partnership

  • Partner closely with Property Managers and operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and coding
  • Support day-to-day accounting activities including rent, deposits, vendor payments, and management fees
  • Act as a key liaison between accounting and operations to improve workflows and communication

Transaction Oversight & Issue Resolution

  • Monitor resident ledgers, payables, and transaction activity for accuracy and completeness
  • Investigate and resolve accounting issues proactively
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and property management agreements

Process Improvement & Ownership

  • Take ownership of issues, solve problems independently, and drive solutions
  • Support audits, tax preparation, and special projects as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, ideally in property management or real estate
  • Strong understanding of month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Experience preparing owner statements and working with property operations teams preferred
  • AppFolio experience is strongly preferred; candidates with experience in Yardi or other property management/accounting systems, and a demonstrated ability to quickly learn new platforms, will also be considered.
  • Advanced Excel skills preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

What We’re Looking For

  • High ownership mentality—you take initiative and solve problems without waiting for direction
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and build relationships with operations teams
  • Organized, data-driven, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Compensation & Benefits

  • Health benefits
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Career growth opportunities within a growing organization

Why Join Northpoint

  • Opportunity to make a direct impact on financial performance and process improvement
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture
  • Environment that values ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement

A Note to Candidates: While AppFolio experience and experience in property management or real estate are strongly preferred, a lack of that background should not discourage you from applying.
