This role manages strategic supplier relationships, oversees contract negotiations, and drives cost‑reduction initiatives that support long‑term operational and financial goals. The Purchasing Agent is proactive in their approach to coordinating the activities involved in procuring the materials needed, and will review requisition requests, while working with vendors to obtain product information such as price, availability, and delivery schedules. POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Purchasing Agent leads complex procurement activities to ensure the organization secures high‑quality materials, equipment, and services at the best overall value. This role manages strategic supplier relationships, oversees contract negotiations, and drives cost‑reduction initiatives that support long‑term operational and financial goals. The Senior Purchasing Agent analyzes market trends, evaluates vendor performance, and collaborates with cross‑functional teams to forecast needs and optimize inventory levels. Acting as a subject‑matter expert, this position provides guidance to junior purchasing staff, improves procurement processes, and ensures compliance with company policies and industry standards. Strong leadership, analytical thinking, and negotiation skills are essential for success in this role.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hires and manages the Purchasing Agents and other staff as needed.
  • Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Develops and writes processes to be followed by purchasing agents.
  • Gathers information for large buyouts of commodities. Maintains market knowledge and introduces new products to help improve production in the field and meet company goals of efficiency.
  • Research purchase history of standard products with intent to maximize buying power and obtain the best value of said products and services.
  • Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions.
  • Assesses current material availability; reasonably predicts future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables to share with operations department.
  • Prepares and presents market conditions and merchandise cost reports.
  • Prepares and processes purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Evaluates, reviews and makes recommendations of terms and conditions for PO’s of large buyouts for final approval of President of respective division.
  • Resolves grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Maintains and/or implements purchasing and recordkeeping systems.
  • Acts as the company’s representative in negotiations with suppliers.
  • Administers the departmental budget.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration
  • Minimum 3 years previous experience managing supply chain operations
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • In-depth contract review and negotiation
  • Previous management experience
  • Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
