Senior Security Officer
Senior Security Officers deliver the highest quality of security and customer service to TCCL staff, customers, and guests. Security officers ensure all proper procedures and rules are followed by monitoring and patrolling library property and responding to emergency situations. Senior Security Officers must be a seasoned professional with three or more years working in a diverse and challenging environment.
This is a safety sensitive position.
Location: Central Library 400 Civic Center, Tulsa, OK. 74103; Multiple Tulsa City-County Library Locations
Status: 40 hours / week
Salary: Starting $18.65/hr.

Schedule:
40 hours per week able to work a flexible schedule;
Evenings and weekends required;
Working multiple locations;
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Conducts regular patrols of the interior and exterior of library buildings in all-weather conditions;
  • Enforces TCCL policies, rules and regulations;
  • Monitors (on foot and through a security camera system) buildings for unauthorized and suspicious activities;
  • Reports safety, security, and hazardous conditions to the Security management and library management;
  • Responds to calls for assistance from staff and/or customers;
  • Provides security escort services to library staff;
  • Responds immediately to unusual or emergency situations;
  • Takes appropriate action to ensure the safety and security of Library staff, customers, and property;
  • Directs emergency personnel on the property when emergency situations occur;
  • Maintains order and control during emergency situations;
  • Works with local law enforcement and/or other first responders as needed;
  • Communicates with customers who fail to comply with Library rules and policies;
  • Explains rules and policies to customers and solicits customer cooperation and compliance;
  • Enforces correction of infractions through verbal warning; de-escalates sensitive situations;
• Prepares incident reports to document facts and finding and completes daily activity reports to ensure department communication and continuity; • Maintains proficient use of all assigned protective equipment and life saving devices;
  • Provides security at library special events such as SRP, DAD, etc.;
  • Provides supplemental, on-site training to new guards in different locations to provide a diversity of experiences, drawing real life scenarios from PITS report to help educate;
  • Addresses sensitive events such as demonstrations or civil unrest by making initial contact and escalating as is appropriate;
  • Conducts security camera monitoring and maintains awareness of activities and timely responding to disruptions or security breaches by ensuring appropriate electronic devices are within reach;
  • Conducts regular vehicle patrols throughout library properties to maintain awareness of all activities, and responds to disruptions security breaches or other emergencies;
  • Performs the following Safety Sensitive function:
o Ensuring the safety and health of employees and customers working in or using Library facilities;
  • Actively supports TCCL’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts, and the Library’s Be All In culture;
  • Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.
Qualifications:
  • A valid Oklahoma driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required to drive TCCL fleet vehicle;
  • Must be able to work at any location throughout the TCCL system on an as needed basis; must have reliable transportation to move between locations as needed;
  • Must accept assignment at locations with higher than average number or escalated PITS reports;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to respond appropriately in stressful and potentially dangerous situations, sometimes involving unruly or disruptive customers;
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office, email, and the Internet;
  • Ability to learn and navigate security cameras software and other security technology;
  • Available to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must complete and understand all required security and compliance training within 90 days of employment;
  • Must read, comprehend and exhibit understanding and application of relevant TCCL policies and procedures;
  • Demonstrates excellent situational awareness at all times;
  • Exhibits superior problem-solving skills and judgement to address sensitive issues quickly and quietly.
Education & Experience:
  • Currently possess a CLEET security license or be able to obtain in 45 days; must be held throughout employment;
  • High School diploma or G.E.D;
  • Four or more years security experience in a public setting actively involved in resolving challenges such as mental health, drug abuse, homelessness, safe place, etc.
Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions:
Requires occasional stooping or bending; occasional light lifting (up to 20 pounds) may be required; frequent use of office equipment as well as long periods of sitting, standing, or walking as needed
Occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions; may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as working in a confined area for long periods of time, dealing with angry or unruly customers, occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals • Routine, in-town travel may occur.
