Senior Software Engineer
LOCATION: WPAFB, Dayton, OH

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to support the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) program at Wright Patterson AFB, OH.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

Master’s or Doctorate degree in a related field and 10 years of relevant experience, with 5 years in the DoD;

OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 12 years relevant experience, with 5 years in the DoD;

OR 15 years of directly related experience with appropriate certifications, with 8 years in the DoD.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide source code, configuration file management, and engineering resolution support.
- Evaluate operational feasibility by assessing requirements, problem definitions, solution development, and proposed implementation approaches.
- Develop and present engineering solutions through documentation, flowcharts, diagrams, code comments, layouts, and related artifacts.
- Determine and design system specifications, standards, and implement solutions through programming and installation activities.
- Conduct systems and process analysis to identify improvement opportunities and recommend policy or procedural modifications.
- Support software procurement efforts by researching, analyzing, comparing, and documenting vendor products, including installation, configuration, and testing.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize development and service-related issues to provide recommendations and decision support.
- Support organizational objectives and program mission by completing related engineering tasks as required.
- Develop software solutions by studying user stories, requirements, data needs, workflows, system interactions, and operational processes within an Agile development framework.
- Evaluate and apply modern software technologies including containerization, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, configuration as code, microservices, APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and automation across the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Ensure strict adherence to information security and cybersecurity policies, principles, and best practices within all application software activities.

- Performs complex tasks independently with minimal oversight.
- Oversees, mentors, and provides guidance to junior and journeyman-level personnel.
- Applies advanced understanding of discipline-specific standards, procedures, and practices in coordination with program office, enterprise stakeholders, and staff-level entities.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting ACAT I/III or major defense acquisition programs.
- Knowledge of Clinger-Cohen Act compliance and business case development.
- Experience with Air Force logistics, depot maintenance systems, or enterprise modernization efforts.
- Relevant certifications such as DoD 8570/8140, AWS/Azure professional certifications, or Agile (Scrum, SAFe).
