We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Specialist, Real Estate Lending, to join our Credit Services team. This role is located in New York, NY.

Senior Specialist, Real Estate Lending supports Client Executives in Commercial Real Estate (CRE) across the full lending lifecycle for Public REIT corporate revolvers and real estate construction/project loans. The role spans screening, origination, underwriting, closing, and portfolio monitoring with a strong emphasis on credit analysis, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Deal Screening and Underwriting
    • Support the end-to-end underwriting process for Public REIT corporate revolvers and construction/project loans.
    • Prepare credit memos with clear narratives, risk assessments, mitigants, and recommendations.
    • Analyze borrower/guarantor financials, cash flows, collateral structures, market conditions, and sponsor strength.
    • Develop and maintain financial models and sensitivities (e.g., DSCR, LTV, coverage ratios, stress scenarios).
  • Credit Risk Assessment and Approval
    • Assess creditworthiness using quantitative/qualitative frameworks; identify key risks and mitigants.
    • Coordinate with Risk and Credit Administration to support timely approvals and documentation.
    • Ensure adherence to internal credit policies, rating methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Closing and Documentation
    • Assist with closing workflows, documentation review, and conditions precedent tracking.
    • Partner with Legal, Operations, and Risk to ensure accurate loan setup and funding.
  • Portfolio Management and Monitoring
    • Prepare annual and interim reviews; update borrower ratings with defensible rationale.
    • Monitor covenant compliance, financial reporting, collateral valuations, and market indicators.
    • Track regulatory reporting and internal controls; escalate exceptions and propose remediation plans.
  • Client Marketing and Presentation
    • Assist with pitch materials, term sheets, and client presentations; maintain standardized templates.
    • Partner with Client Executives to support origination pipelines and client relationships.
  • Team Collaboration and Development
    • Provide guidance to junior analysts/associates on models, memos, and best practices.
    • Contribute to platform/process enhancements; share insights to improve speed and quality.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. MBA is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of total work experience, preferably in real estate lending or commercial banking preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in credit analysis, underwriting, and portfolio monitoring preferred.
  • Experience with Public REITs, construction lending, project finance, or agency functions preferred.
  • Familiarity with loan documentation, covenant structures, and regulatory reporting preferred.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $90,000 and $120,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
