Role Description:
Providing operational support for managing and maintaining the performance, security, and efficiency of the organization's critical on-premises database systems and environments. In addition to monitoring database and instance performance, conducting capacity planning analysis, and performing root cause analysis of incidents, the role will be focused on supporting core business systems' databases through daily maintenance including various SQL jobs development, execution, and handling - primarily running Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Enterprise Edition - to maintain reliable systems operations by closely working with application functions within IT to support the various business requirements delivery and implementation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain multiple on-premises SQL Server 2014 Enterprise instances, including core business systems' databases and other critical database instances, ensuring maximum uptime, performance, and data integrity.
- Perform daily database maintenance activities, including development, scheduling, execution, monitoring, and troubleshooting of SQL Server Agent jobs and other automated maintenance tasks.
- Monitor database and instance performance; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through query tuning, index optimization, statistics maintenance, and execution plan analysis.
- Implement, test, and manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies (full, differential, transaction log backups) to meet recovery point and time objectives (RPO/RTO).
- Manage database security: user/role permissions, auditing, encryption (where applicable), and compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Handle high-availability and failover configurations supported in SQL Server 2014 (e.g., Failover Clustering, Database Mirroring, Log Shipping) to minimize downtime.
- Plan and execute patching, service pack updates, cumulative updates, and assess potential upgrade/migration paths from SQL Server 2014.
- Perform capacity planning, disk space management, and resource optimization (memory, CPU, I/O) for SQL Server environments.
- Closely collaborate with application development, support, and business teams to understand requirements, support application releases, troubleshoot application-database issues, and implement database changes needed for new features or business initiatives.
- Investigate and resolve database-related incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
- Automate routine DBA tasks using T-SQL scripts, SQL Server Agent jobs, PowerShell, or other tools to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Document database configurations, maintenance procedures, SQL jobs, runbooks, and maintain accurate inventory of instances and databases.
- Provide 24/7 on-call support on a rotating basis for critical production systems and participate in after-hours maintenance windows as required
Education/Professional Qualification:
- Education Degree: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Microsoft certification preferred, such as:
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE): Data Management and Analytics (or equivalent legacy certifications relevant to SQL Server 2014).
- Microsoft Certified Azure Database Administrator Associate
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator, with at least 5 years focused on SQL Server 2012/2014 Enterprise Edition in production on-premises environments.
- Years of Experience: 5+ years of experience within a related field.
- License: None.
- Professional Certification: Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert , Microsoft Certified Azure Database Administrator Associate
Expertise and Skills:
- Deep proficiency administering Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Enterprise Edition (including high-availability features such as Failover Clustering, Database Mirroring, Log Shipping).
- Advanced T-SQL programming, query optimization, indexing strategies, statistics management, and execution plan analysis.
- Strong experience designing, developing, scheduling, and troubleshooting SQL Server Agent jobs for maintenance, ETL, and business processes.
- Solid understanding of Windows Server OS in relation to SQL Server (file system, permissions, clustering).
- Performance monitoring and tuning using tools like SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events, Dynamic Management Views (DMVs), Activity Monitor, and related utilities. Exceptional customer service skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities under pressure.
- Scripting and automation skills (T-SQL mandatory; PowerShell preferred).
- Knowledge of database security best practices, auditing, and compliance considerations.
- Familiarity with ETL processes, SSIS packages, and basic reporting (SSRS) is a plus.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with application teams, developers, and business stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and mentor junior team members when required.
- Scripting and automation skills (T-SQL mandatory; PowerShell preferred).
- Knowledge of database security best practices, auditing, and compliance considerations.

Work Condition:
- Hybrid or remote work arrangement is feasible, whether the role is filled as a full-time employee (FTE) or through an outsourced engagement; on-site presence may be required based on business requirements or necessity (e.g., for specific hardware troubleshooting, data center access, or critical on-premises activities)
- Participation in a rotating on-call schedule (24/7 support) for production incidents, critical alerts, and emergency response.
- Occasional after-hours, weekend, or holiday work required for patching, upgrades, major maintenance activities, or incident resolution.
- Standard full-time position with expectation of high focus during business hours for proactive administration, daily maintenance, job monitoring, and collaborative project work.
