DB2 Database Administrator – L2

Experience Required: 5–7 Years

The L2 DB2 Database Administrator is responsible for handling complex DB2 database operations, performance engineering, HA/DR architecture, and production escalations. The role provides expert-level support for enterprise-scale DB2 environments and mentors junior DBAs.

Your future duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
Database Engineering & Operations

Execute advanced DB2 installations, upgrades, migrations, and fix pack deployments.
Manage large-scale environments including systems, storage structures, buffer pools, and schemas.
Perform advanced maintenance activities such as REORG, RUNSTATS, and storage optimization.

Performance Tuning

Conduct deep-dive performance diagnostics using explain plans, monitoring utilities, and DB2 snapshots.
Optimize SQL, indexing strategies, memory allocation, and locking mechanisms.

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

Design, implement, and troubleshoot HADR, TSA, and DR solutions.
Conduct DR drills, failover/fallback, and ensure RPO/RTO compliance.

Backup & Recovery

Plan and execute complex backup/restore strategies including point‑in‑time and redirected restores.
Automate backup processes and validate recovery models.

Security & Compliance

Implement authentication models, roles, privileges, and encryption standards.
Conduct periodic audits and ensure compliance with enterprise security policies.

Incident & Problem Management

Lead troubleshooting for P1/P2 production issues and perform detailed root cause analysis.
Provide on‑call support for escalations and critical production events.

Automation & Optimization

Develop automation scripts using Shell/Python for operational efficiency.
Recommend architectural improvements and participate in capacity planning.

Documentation & Mentoring

Create technical documentation, SOPs, and runbooks.
Mentor L1/L2 DBAs on DB2 best practices and operational processes.

Required Skills

Strong expertise with IBM DB2 LUW administration.
Deep understanding of HADR, TSA, performance tuning, backup/recovery.
Skilled in Shell/Python scripting.
Experience with Linux/Unix environments.
Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
