Senior System Engineer Virtualization (VMware Cloud Foundation Specialist)

Job Summary

The Senior System Engineer specializing in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, with a strong focus on VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). The candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and optimizing enterprise virtualization environments while ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.

Responsibilities

• Architecture Leadership: Own end-to-end SDDC design, workload domain strategy, and multi-site/stretched cluster architecture
• Advanced Deployment: Lead VCF deployments, upgrades, and lifecycle operations using SDDC Manager
• Operations Excellence: Define operational standards, monitoring frameworks, and SLA adherence
• NSX & Security Leadership: Design micro-segmentation, advanced routing, and security architecture
• Automation Strategy: Drive automation using PowerCLI, APIs, Infrastructure-as-Code
• Governance & Compliance: Ensure adherence to security baselines, audit readiness, and best practices
• Mentorship & Leadership: Mentor junior engineers and act as escalation point (L3/L4)
• Design, deploy, and manage virtualization infrastructure using VMware technologies (vSphere, vSAN, NSX).
• Monitor system performance, capacity planning, and ensure high availability of virtual environments.
• Perform upgrades, patches, and lifecycle management of VMware platforms.
• Troubleshoot complex virtualization and infrastructure issues.
• Integrate virtualization solutions with storage, backup, and disaster recovery systems.
• Manage and optimize resource utilization across clusters and data centers.
  
  

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in virtualization and infrastructure engineering.
• Proven hands-on expertise with VMware Cloud Foundation in production environments.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale or multi-site environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter .
• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) .
• VMware NSX & vSAN .
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or hybrid cloud environments).
• Solid understanding of networking, storage, and security concepts.
• Experience with backup solutions and disaster recovery planning.
• Familiarity with scripting/automation (PowerShell, PowerCLI).
  
  

Technical Skills

• VMware certifications (VCP, VCAP, or VCF-related certifications).
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, or Tanzu.
• Knowledge of ITIL processes.
