Senior Tax Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Senior Tax Specialist to join our dynamic finance team. In this pivotal role, you will lead complex tax planning and compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards while optimizing financial strategies. Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current laws and regulations.
  • Lead tax planning strategies, including estate planning, mergers & acquisitions, and corporate restructuring initiatives.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements, to identify tax implications and opportunities for savings.
  • Manage regulatory reporting requirements such as SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) compliance and other statutory filings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on financial report writing, interpretation of financial concepts, and ensuring adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Oversee audit processes related to tax and financial reporting, supporting external auditors with necessary documentation.
  • Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar tools for bookkeeping, account reconciliation, and general ledger management.
  • Support non-profit accounting functions including accounts payable, asset management, and budget analysis when applicable.
  • Provide guidance on securities law compliance, private equity transactions, and investment-related tax considerations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws affecting financial sales, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), and other specialized areas to ensure ongoing compliance.

Skills

  • Extensive experience in tax accounting with a strong understanding of GAAP and technical accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or equivalent platforms for bookkeeping and financial analysis.
  • Deep knowledge of estate planning, wills, trusts & estate law to advise on related tax strategies.
  • Strong analysis skills for financial report interpretation and account reconciliation processes.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance requirements and regulatory reporting procedures.
  • Ability to perform detailed account analysis involving debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, balance sheet reconciliation, and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience working within public accounting firms or corporate accounting departments with a focus on mergers & acquisitions or financial services.
  • Excellent understanding of financial concepts related to asset management, private equity investments, payroll processing, budgeting, and financial planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial information clearly through written reports and presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
