Job Purpose:

To lead and perform testing and commissioning activities for high-voltage substations (HV/MV/LV), ensuring all systems operate per design specifications, industry standards, and client requirements. The role involves hands-on testing, supervision, technical reporting, troubleshooting, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

1. Testing & Commissioning

• Perform and lead testing activities for primary and secondary equipment in substations:
• Power transformers (functional checks, ratio, winding resistance, insulation resistance, etc.)
• Switchgear (GIS/AIS), circuit breakers, CTs, VTs, protection relays.
• Protection and control systems.
• Battery chargers, DC systems, SCADA, communication systems.
• Conduct functional and interlock tests of protection and control schemes.
• Execute and verify relay settings for distance, differential, overcurrent, and other protections.
• Perform primary and secondary injection testing.
• Ensure system energization is done safely and in compliance with protocols.

2. Supervision & Coordination

• Lead a team of junior engineers and technicians on-site.
• Coordinate with design teams, OEMs, client representatives, and third-party contractors.
• Attend progress, technical, and safety meetings.
• Liaise with utilities or grid authorities for approvals and energization permits.

3. Documentation

• Prepare and review method statements, risk assessments, and test procedures.
• Maintain and submit detailed test reports, punch lists, and commissioning dossiers.
• Update red-line/as-built drawings in coordination with the engineering team.

4. Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all activities comply with applicable standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC, etc.).
• Follow and enforce HSE guidelines during all testing and commissioning tasks.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 7 –15 years of experience in testing and commissioning of HV/MV substations.
• Strong knowledge of protection systems (ABB, Siemens, GE, Schneider, SEL, etc.).
• Familiar with IEC standards and utility specifications.
• Certification in electrical safety or relevant commissioning training is preferred.
