Senior Underwriting Consultant

Responsible for providing facultative underwriting risk assessment to clients as assigned, within time service and quality standards as defined by SCOR Global Life Americas. The Senior Underwriting Consultant must also provide underwriting consulting advice for client companies in a timely and professional manner. Projects, other facultative case maintenance and client communication is required. Large case underwriting experience preferred.


  • Apply sophisticated underwriting procedures to assess complex and/or medical and large case financial risks for facultative clients.
  • Interact with clients to secure specialized or supplementary information; develops alternative solutions when routine/usual methods do not work and provides excellent customer service through understanding and innovation.
  • Communicate with all levels of client underwriters and other company management personnel, explaining the reasoning and theory which surrounds an underwriting impairment, problem and/or decision
  • Keep up to date with current medical topics, current financial documentation and business environment as well as changing / new financial evaluation concepts and measures, data sources and their use in case underwriting
  • Function effectively and professionally within a team
  • Understand and effectively implement all SCOR Global Life Americas retention and retrocession schedules
  • Project work is required, to enhance SCOR underwriting knowledge and stay on top of client requests
  • Demonstrate a willingness and desire to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies in daily underwriting processes and case review, actively seeking opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy and decision-making through innovation digital solutions
  • Other duties as required for the position.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 7 – 10 years current, active life underwriting experience
  • Minimum $5,000,000 case approval authority for the past three years – all ages and ratings
  • Currently handling a regular new business caseload
  • Ability to read (interpret) EKG’s (e.g., screen normal from abnormal tracings, applying normal results to the history)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated successful track record working with field force and/or sales representatives and when applicable, client company underwriters
  • Demonstrated meaningful progress toward completion of ALU education program
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels within SGLA
  • Ability to adapt to change routinely and support the goals of the underwriting unit and the company through teamwork and additional hours as required
  • PC literacy in Word Office products and Underwriting systems
Candidates must have valid authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.
Pay Range for roles performed in KS: $109,000-$133,500 base salary per year. Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including
but not limited to location, experience, role and performance. The range listed is just one component of SCOR's total compensation
package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long term incentives. In addition, we provide a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance
