Job Summary:

The Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) Technical Lead plays a pivotal leadership role in managing the design, development, and delivery of complex marketing automation solutions. Acting as the technical owner of the SFMC platform, this individual leads a team of developers and engineers to implement scalable, high-performing, and maintainable solutions that support marketing goals across journeys, automations, APIs, and integrations.

This role not only ensures adherence to Salesforce best practices and architectural governance but also serves as the go-to subject matter expert for resolving technical challenges, reviewing code quality, and driving technical excellence across the delivery lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience with SFMC technologies and strong leadership capabilities to manage offshore development teams in a fast-paced, enterprise environment.


Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Delivery Oversight

  • Lead the end-to-end technical development lifecycle for Salesforce Marketing Cloud projects including architecture, development, QA support, and deployment.
  • Supervise and mentor developers working on Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Contact Builder, Email Studio, and custom API integrations.
  • Translate solution designs and business requirements into high-quality technical implementations that are scalable, secure, and performant.

2. Standards, Governance & Code Quality

  • Define and enforce coding standards, naming conventions, and reusable design patterns across SFMC assets and scripts.
  • Conduct code reviews, evaluate logic quality and complexity, and ensure optimal use of AMPscript, SSJS, and SQL queries.
  • Maintain technical documentation, repositories, version control, and deployment checklists.

3. Problem Solving & Escalation Management

  • Act as the primary escalation point for resolving complex technical issues across SFMC modules and integrations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues related to data ingestion, scripting, automation failures, and integration timeouts.
  • Drive root cause analysis, performance tuning, and long-term resolution planning for recurring issues.

4. Integration & Platform Optimization

  • Lead the development of custom APIs, data syncs, and external system integrations (e.g., Salesforce CRM, CDPs, data lakes).
  • Ensure data modeling, ETL scripts, and automations are optimized for speed, scale, and data integrity.
  • Oversee the use of SFTP, Journey Builder entry sources, and transactional send architecture.

5. Stakeholder Collaboration & Strategic Input

  • Work closely with Solution Architects, Project Managers, and Business Analysts to provide technical input during design and planning phases.
  • Ensure all development aligns with business rules, compliance standards, and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and adoption of new SFMC features and third-party tools where relevant.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in SFMC development, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in:
  • AMPscript, SSJS, SQL, and personalization scripting.
  • REST/SOAP APIs, webhooks, OAuth 2.0.
  • SFMC modules: Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Email Studio, and Contact Builder.
  • Strong understanding of data extensions, subscriber models, data privacy regulations (GDPR, CAN-SPAM), and campaign personalization logic.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications: Email Specialist, Developer, Consultant.
  • Experience integrating SFMC with Salesforce Sales/Service Cloud, CDPs, or third-party systems using APIs.
  • Familiarity with Agile or DevOps workflows, including version control tools like Git.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging frameworks to ensure automation reliability and API uptime.
