Role Summary
Establish and lead the venture’s Sharia governance, ensuring all products, contracts, marketing, operations, and investments comply with Sharia principles and applicable Qatari regulatory expectations. Provide formal Sharia opinions (fatwas), continuous oversight, and practical guidance to product, legal, risk, compliance, finance, technology, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Sharia Governance: Set up the Sharia governance framework, charters, and procedures; coordinate SSB meetings, agendas, resolutions, and minutes.
- Product & Contract Review: Review and approve product structures, customer journeys, terms & conditions, and all legal/operational documentation; issue and archive Sharia opinions; manage change-control for product updates.
- Ongoing Assurance: Design and execute periodic Sharia audits and thematic reviews; track findings to remediation; certify annual Sharia compliance.
- Marketing & Communications: Pre-clear marketing, disclosures, and customer communications for Sharia accuracy and fair presentation.
- Investments & Screening: Define and enforce screening criteria for counterparties, instruments, and funds; oversee purification (if required) and charitable allocation processes.
- Policies & Training: Develop Sharia policies/standards and deliver role-based training across the business; cultivate an ethical, customer-centric culture.
- Advisory to Control Functions: Partner with Risk, Compliance/MLRO, Legal, and Internal Audit on new initiatives, outsourcing/vendors, technology changes, incidents, and complaints with Sharia implications.
- Reporting: Provide concise MI to management, the SSB, and the Board; support regulatory interactions on Sharia matters.
