Ship Energy Modeling Engineer

Location: Chennai (Siruseri)

Experience: 9+ years

Choosing our organization means joining a team committed to innovation in maritime energy systems. You’ll work on advanced simulation libraries that optimize ship efficiency and contribute to sustainable shipping solutions.

Your Role

As a Ship Energy Modeling Engineer, you will develop and validate models for propulsion, thermal, electrical, and hydrodynamic/aerodynamic systems. You’ll collaborate with R&D experts and cross-disciplinary teams to create robust simulation frameworks.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and maintain energy system modeling libraries for ships.
  • Create and validate modular components for propulsion, electrical, thermal, and fluid systems.
  • Integrate hydrodynamic and aerodynamic resistance models (hull drag, wind loads, added resistance).
  • Implement testing frameworks to ensure model robustness and accuracy.
  • Calibrate and verify models using experimental data, real data, component specs, or expert knowledge.
  • Write technical documentation, including user manuals and model specifications.
  • Reuse and generalize modeling blocks for a range of vessel types and configurations.
  • Use Dymola (Modelica) or equivalent platforms to develop simulation models.
  • Collaborate with domain experts (propulsion, hull design, HVAC, electrical systems, naval architecture) to implement validated system representations.

Your Profile

  • Master’s degree in Energy Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related field.
  • 9+ years of experience in system modeling, thermodynamics, electrical systems, hydrodynamics, and energy analysis.
  • Expertise in physical system modeling using tools such as Dymola/Modelica, Simulink, AMESim, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of ship propulsion systems, HVAC, auxiliaries, and their energy interactions.
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamics (resistance, propulsion curves) and aerodynamics (wind loads, air drag) is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with control system modeling, component-based architecture, and system optimization techniques.
  • Solid programming and model documentation practices.
  • Proficiency in technical English.

What You’ll Love About Working Here

  • Opportunity to work on innovative projects in maritime energy systems.
  • Collaborative work environment with R&D and engineering experts.
  • Flexibility in modeling tools and methods to encourage creativity and efficiency.
  • Contribution to sustainable shipping and energy efficiency.
