Position Summary
The Shipping & Logistics Manager oversees and coordinates all activities related to the shipment of finished goods, receipt of raw materials, and internal material movement throughout the manufacturing plant. This role ensures delivery on time, compliance with transportation regulations, inventory accuracy, cost‑effective shipping processes, and efficient warehouse operations. The manager leads the shipping/receiving team, maintains carrier relationships, and drives continuous improvement in logistics performance.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping & Outbound Logistics

Manage daily outbound shipments.

Ensure accuracy of BOLs, packing lists, and other shipping documents.

Verify load quality, packaging, and customer requirements.
-
Optimize freight methods and costs.
-
Monitor carrier performance.
Receiving & Inbound Logistics
-
Oversee receiving of raw materials and supplies.
-
Ensure accurate and timely ERP receiving entries.
-
Address delivery discrepancies and damaged goods.
-
Maintain communication with vendors regarding inbound schedules.
Warehouse & Inventory Control
-
Maintain organized warehouse layout and efficient material flow.
-
Lead cycle counts and inventory accuracy initiatives.
-
Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
-
Ensure proper storage, labeling, and FIFO/FEFO rotation.

Support monthly financial materials audit.
Compliance & Carrier Coordination

Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and transportation regulations.

Coordinate with freight carriers and brokers.
-
Manage freight claims and delivery issues.
Team Leadership

Supervise shipping, receiving, and warehouse employees.

Assign daily tasks and manage staffing schedules.
-
Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback.

Promote and enforce plant safety standards.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement

Track and report logistics KPIs (on time shipment, freight costs, inventory accuracy).

Maintain accurate ERP/WMS data.

Support Lean, 5S, and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.

3–5+ years of logistics, shipping/receiving, or warehouse management experience in a manufacturing environment.

Experience with ERP or WMS systems (SAP, Oracle, Plex, Epicor, etc.).

Experience managing carrier relationships and understanding freight classifications.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong understanding of logistics operations, transportation compliance, and inventory control.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
-
Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook) and shipping software.

Forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain.
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and operate warehouse equipment in a manufacturing environment.

Ability to lift to 50 lbs. occasionally.

Exposure to warehouse and plant conditions (noise, temperature variations).
