JOB SUMMARY

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in packaging, loading, unloading, storing, and  transporting materials and products by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understands, observes and enforces all necessary safety procedures: safety glasses, shoes, ear  protection, lifting guidelines, etc, as designated in specific work area assigned
  • Completes necessary job related paperwork (i.e.  shipping logs, tickets, bill of ladings, service packing  lists, etc...)
  • Reports any major shipping or receiving concerns to Fab Vice President in a timely manner
  • Oversees the work duties and performance of the Shipping Packer and assigned Material Handler daily
  • Reviews accuracy of all shipping documents to verify correct quantities, shipping methods, etc
  • Confers with department supervisors to coordinate flow of materials or products
  • Observes packing and wrapping operations to verify conformance to specifications
  • Inspects products prior to packing and wrapping and places rejected products aside or returns them to  production departments
  • Frequently reviews all correspondences (ie. voice mail messages, emails, faxes, mail) and responds to all requests in a timely manner. 
  • Confers with other department supervisors to ascertain type and quantity of product to be shipped and packing requirements, such as containers or wrapping material to be used or any special instructions
  • Verifies or prepares records such as routing slips, material requisitions, and job orders
  • Verifies materials loaded or unloaded against work order or bill of lading
  • Directs workers to move materials or products to storage areas or production departments
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments in order to meet company deadlines effectively
  • Accurately communicates all necessary production, staffing and equipment issues to all shifts
  • Interprets and enforces all supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and applicable laws
  • Performs personnel tasks with the assistance of the Human Resources Department as needed, to effectively maintain departmental staff; such as interviewing and training, addressing complaints, investigating and resolving employee issues and conducting performance reviews
  • Additional duties or responsibilities as assigned by department supervisor

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years shipping and receiving experience with supervisory responsibility
  • High school or GED equivalent
  • College course work, certification or formal training required

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to recognize and interpret documents such as safety rules, shipping instructions and procedure manuals
  • Extensive knowledge of shipping and receiving standards required
  • Basic computer skills to perform order inquiry and data input as needed
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure; involves coping with stress and maintaining a composed,  professional manner in all circumstances related to employees, co-workers, customers or vendors
  • Extensive knowledge of various shipping and freight methods and their procedures required.  (UPS, FedEx, International Freight Services, etc..)
  • Ability to operate shipping equipment effectively (forklift, stock picker, etc.)
  • Ability to assess weight of items to be shipped in order to determine appropriate moving methods. (ex: pallet jack, etc.)
  • Exceptional knowledge with related industry's concepts, practices and procedures
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Regularly required to walk or stand the duration of 8-10 hour shift daily
  • Occasionally required to sit, bend, reach, crouch, stoop, kneel, push or pull
  • Frequently  required to lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally move up to 75 pounds with assistance of moving equipment (pallet jack, etc.)
  • Must be able to operate all shipping/receiving equipment such as scales, stretch wrap machine and uses pallet jack to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work
  • The noise level in the work environment is generally loud,  in which hearing protection is required
