Job Purpose

We are looking for a Shop Foreman to work closely with our team members and industry partners to run a safe and profitable location with a top-notch fleet while providing outstanding customer service. The Shop Foreman is responsible for assigning all duties for the routine care, maintenance and cleanliness of the motor coach fleet. The position responsibilities are critical to the safety of the shop team and passengers in our care. The primary responsibilities of this position involve managing a shop team by OSHA standards and DOT regulations, quality control of the fleet, parts inventory and ordering, handling mechanical duties and assisting mechanics with light and heavy repairs on a daily basis, as well as troubleshooting and working with the fleet and customer service personnel over the phone. Responsibilities also include maintaining proper and timely reporting, along with consistent upkeep and cleanliness of the shop facility.

The Shop Foreman manages and leads company shop facility to ensure motor coach fleet receives proper maintenance and repairs in a timely manner. This supervisory position will assign jobs to mechanic team and monitor progress of jobs, providing guidance and assistance as needed to ensure deadlines are met. The Shop Foreman must be a highly organized and solutions-based individual that can find a way to complete the job while controlling costs and being aware of safety and soundness issues. Candidate must be willing to obtain a Class A or B commercial driver’s license within 90 days of hire, maintain a company-issued phone, and participate in an on call rotation for two weeks per month.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide daily supervision of the shop and mechanical/janitorial employees.
  • Conduct weekly OSHA safety meetings and team huddles.
  • Review DVIR work orders daily/weekly, as well as all preventative maintenance reports, assign/perform repairs, and oversee scheduled maintenance.
  • Assist with all parts ordering and inventory control.
  • Test drive motor coaches as needed.
  • Review completed work orders for accuracy and upload detailed repair information into the maintenance system.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual bus inspections.
  • Coordinate with sales and dispatch to assign buses for outgoing charters.
  • Ensure all buses leaving the shop meet quality and safety standards, including cleaning, washing, fueling and pre-trip/post trip inspections.
  • Work with the safety department to investigate bus related accidents or incidents.
  • Ensure fire extinguishers and eye wash stations are inspected regularly and on schedule.
  • Provide support to drivers experiencing equipment issues.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and bus yard at all times.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with customers, team members, and senior leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of motor coach mechanics.
  • Understanding of OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, and ADEM standards and regulations.
  • Experience in the tour, travel, or charter bus industry preferred.
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Excel.
  • Ability to learn and understand the charter coach industry and related regulatory guidance (DOT, FMCSA, TSA, etc.).
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Self motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience with computerized charter systems is a plus.
  • Must possess the ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical, satisfactory MVR and background check.
  • CDL (Class A or B) required for position.
  • Passenger endorsement desired (or must be able to obtain within first 90 days after hire)

Working Conditions

  • Maintenance shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and heavy equipment.
  • Will require evening, weekend, or on call hours depending on operational needs.
  • Occasional outdoor work during road calls or inspections.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to operate a computer, phone system, and other office equipment. Must also be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
