Position Summary
LJJ Construction LLC, A leader in commercial and industrial construction seeks an experienced and self-motivated shop mechanic/manager to oversee the daily operations of our construction equipment and maintenance shop. This role requires a mechanical expert who can also manage inventory and ensure the shop runs safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate takes pride in keeping equipment running at peak performance and understands the direct impact maintenance has on timelines and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-On Mechanical Repair

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of construction equipment, including diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drivetrain components
• Perform preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, light vehicles, trailers, and power tools
• Conduct inspections and troubleshoot mechanical failures to minimize equipment downtime
• Weld, fabricate, and perform field repairs as needed
• Maintain accurate and complete service records for all equipment

Shop & Team Management

• Prioritize and assign work orders based on operational needs and project deadlines
• Coordinate with project managers and superintendents to anticipate equipment needs
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shop environment

Parts, Inventory & Purchasing

• Manage parts inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stocking components
• Source vendors and negotiate pricing to help control maintenance costs
• Track and manage shop supply budgets and expenditures
• Maintain an accurate inventory of tools, equipment, and shop supplies
• Process warranty claims and coordinate with equipment dealers and suppliers

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce all shop safety policies, OSHA regulations, and company procedures
• Ensure all equipment meets DOT requirements and inspection standards
• Maintain proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, including oils, fluids, and chemicals

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems, fleet vehicles, and small engines
• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical documents
• Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred
• Welding and fabrication experience preferred
