Shop Pipefitter

Work Schedule: Standard schedule is Monday through Friday. Weekends on an as needed basis.

Purpose: The Structural Fitter is responsible for fitting, aligning, and assembling steel and structural components for industrial projects. This role ensures precision in fabrication and assembly while following safety, quality, and project specifications.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications for structural steel fabrication and assembly.
  • Lay out, cut, fit and position structural components such as beams, columns, girders, and supports.
  • Align parts using levels, squares, measuring tapes, and other precision tools.
  • Perform tack welding to hold structures in position prior to final welding.
  • Use cutting torches, grinders, and other tools to trim, bevel, or shape materials as required.
  • Ensure all work meets industry codes, project specifications, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and other trades to complete assemblies.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good working condition.
  • Report discrepancies, material shortages, or safety hazards to supervisors.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certificate preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in industrial structural fitting or related fabrication trade.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, measuring instruments, torches, and grinders.
  • Basic welding knowledge (SMAW, FCAW) preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Will talk and hear to communicate.
  • Use arms and hands to signal, reach for, handle or manipulate objects, materials, and tools.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs.
  • See well (naturally or with correction)
  • Eye-hand coordination
  • Good physical fitness
  • Good sense of balance
  • Work at heights

Tool Requirements: Employees are required to utilize their own hand tools. A detailed tool list will be provided during processing.
