Sign Fabricator / Designer

Dallas, United States

About Signgrafx

Signgrafx is a Dallas-based sign manufacturer specializing in high-quality custom signage for commercial, institutional, and athletic clients. We blend craftsmanship with smart design to deliver durable, great-looking signs—on time.

Role Summary

We’re looking for a hands-on Sign Fabricator / Designer who is equally comfortable operating a CNC router and collaborating with customers on design proofs—and who can install non-electric signs in the field. You’ll use VCarve Pro, FlexiSIGN, and Adobe Illustrator to create production-ready files, help fabricate, finish, and quality-check the final products, and complete onsite installations. Prior sign experience is a plus but not required—strong CNC proficiency, design skills, safe installation practices, and a customer-service mindset are musts.

What You’ll Do

  • CNC & Production
  • Set up, program, and run CNC router jobs (tooling, feeds/speeds, workholding, material offsets).
  • Prepare clean, production-ready toolpaths in VCarve Pro.
  • Cut, route, and assemble substrates (aluminum, ACM, acrylic, PVC, HDU, wood).
  • Assist with shop fabrication tasks (edge finishing, sanding, minor painting, hardware install, basic electrical prep for sign components).
  • Maintain machines and shop tools; perform basic troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.
  • Design & Pre-Press
  • Build and clean vector files in Adobe Illustrator and FlexiSIGN for accurate cutting, routing, and printing.
  • Convert customer art into production-ready layouts; manage fonts, layers, bleeds, and cut/score lines.
  • Create quick mockups, proofs, and dimensional drawings with accurate measurements and notes.
  • Collaborate with production to ensure designs match fabrication methods and materials.
  • Installation (Non-Electric Signs)
  • Install non-illuminated signage such as dimensional letters, panel signs, plaques, wayfinding/ADA, wall and post-mounted signs, vinyl graphics, and banners.
  • Perform accurate layout, drilling, anchoring, and fastening on common surfaces (drywall, wood, metal, concrete/masonry) using the correct hardware and adhesives.
  • Safely operate ladders and lifts (scissor/boom) for elevated work; maintain clean work areas and complete installation documentation/photos.
  • Read site plans and follow ADA mounting heights and local requirements; conduct basic site surveys (measurements, photos).
  • Customer Service & Project Support
  • Communicate with customers professionally—gather specs, explain options, review proofs, and capture approvals.
  • Coordinate with sales and project managers on timelines, materials, and installation requirements.
  • Occasionally support deliveries and pickups.

Must-Have Skills

  • CNC router operation: fixture setup, bit selection, tool changes, safe operation, and quality checks.
  • Software proficiency (required):
  • Adobe Illustrator (vector cleanup, outlines, pathfinder, artboards)
  • VCarve Pro (or similar) (toolpaths, nesting, engraving/relief, templates)
  • Installation readiness: able to install non-electric signs with solid carpentry/fastening fundamentals.
  • Comfort with heights: not afraid of heights; able to work safely on ladders and lifts and follow fall-protection best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail; can read drawings and measure accurately (imperial).
  • Clear, friendly communication with customers and internal teams.
  • Ability to switch between computer design work, fabrication, and field work seamlessly.

Nice to Have (Bonus, Not Required)

  • FlexiSIGN (layout, contour cut lines, color management basics)
  • Prior sign industry experience (monument, dimensional letters, printed graphics, ADA).
  • Experience with flatbed printers/laminators, vinyl plotters, or laser cutters.
  • Basic electrical familiarity for LED signage assemblies (not required for installs).
  • Knowledge of ADA signage standards and hardware.
  • Basic CAD or 3D knowledge (Fusion/SketchUp/SolidWorks) for shop drawings.
  • OSHA-10/30, lift certification, or fall-protection training.

Physical & Safety Requirements

  • Lift 50+ lbs occasionally; stand, bend, and move materials throughout the day.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying Texas weather.
  • Work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and lifts; follow PPE and safety protocols (dust collection, guards, lockout/tagout basics).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record (site visits and occasional installations).

Work Style We Love

  • Problem-solver who owns outcomes and keeps jobs moving.
  • Organized, on-time, and consistent with proofing and documentation.
  • Positive, professional, and customer-focused.

Schedule & Pay

  • Schedule: Mon–Fri, 9:00am to 6:00pm (some flexibility for deadlines and installs).
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly + OT eligibility; performance-based growth.
