SITE ENGINEER(TELECOMMUNICATION)

Job Summary

The Telecommunication Field Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end installation, commissioning, and integration of Ericsson Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment. This role bridges the gap between physical site construction and logical network activation, ensuring that sites meet strict quality and safety standards while delivering 4G/5G connectivity.

Key Responsibilities

1. Installation & Integration

  • Hardware Setup: Install and integrate Ericsson Baseband units (e.g., 6630, 6648, 6651) and Remote Radio Units (RRUs).
  • Antenna Systems: Oversee or perform the installation of AIR (Antenna Integrated Radio) units and Microwave systems.
  • Configuration: Load software scripts and configuration files as directed by the Ericsson Site Integrator (ESI).

2. Commissioning & Testing

  • Site Validation: Execute New Site Builds (NSB), carrier additions, and cabinet expansions.
  • Technical Testing: Conduct VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) and RSSI analysis, fiber loss testing, and PIM testing to ensure feeder integrity.
  • Call Testing: Perform functional tests (GSM, UMTS, LTE, 5G) .

3. Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Fault Management: Identify and resolve hardware, transport, or software synchronization issues.
  • Performance Monitoring: Investigate high alarm rates or performance degradation at the site level.
  • Weather-proofing: Ensure all external connectors and feeder lines meet Ericsson’s stringent weather-proofing standards to prevent water ingress.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Closeout Packages (COP): Complete detailed site reports, including photo documentation and inventory scans.
  • Data Management: Utilize tools like Excel or proprietary Ericsson databases to track project milestones and equipment serial numbers.

5. OHS, Security and Risk management Responsibilities

· Ensure safety and security plans are practiced by the team and regularly reviewed and are updated.

· Ensure the systematic operationalization of company OHS policies and procedures.

· Ensure optimum safety of company field staff, employees while at site operations.

· Maintain a risk management matrix and analysis and review and update regularly.

· Maintain and apply knowledge of current health and safety policies, regulations, and industrial processes

· Identify and correct potential hazards by inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment

· Evaluate the effectiveness of various industrial control mechanisms

· Ensure that buildings or products comply with health and safety regulations, especially after an inspection that required changes

· Make sure to identify all the risk and hazards in RA before commencing the work

· Review employee safety programs and recommend improvements

· Fully authorized to stop any activity if found any un safe condition on site.

Technical Skills & Qualifications Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent field experience.

Experience

1-2 years in telecom field operations (Ericsson-specific hardware experience is usually mandatory).

Tools

Hands-on experience with Site Master (Anritsu), Fiber Scopes, and PIM testers, Dummy Loads, ESI, IMK, SRS

Physical & Professional Requirements

  • Mobility: Ready to mobilize to site location to close the system’s technical/logical fault
  • Shift Work: Ability to work during maintenance windows (night shifts) to minimize subscriber impact.
  • Communication: Strong coordination skills to interface with Customer Project Managers, NOC teams, Internal Project Coordinators, Project Managers and subcontractors like site riggers.
