Position Summary

Location: Sullivan's Landscaping and Maintenance Millsboro or Selbyville Branch

Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly (non-exempt)

Direct Report: Colby Sullivan


The Small Engine Mobile Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing all small engine equipment across multiple branches, including handheld equipment and commercial mowing units. This role is critical to minimizing downtime, supporting production efficiency, and ensuring all equipment is operating safely and at peak performance.


This is a mobile position requiring travel between the Milford, Millsboro, and Selbyville locations, as well as emergency on-site field or road support as needed.


Key Responsibilities


Equipment Maintenance & Repair

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair small engine equipment including:

o Husqvarna handheld equipment (trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, etc.)

o Walker mowers

o Wright Manufacturing mowers

o Buyers Snow Equipment

  • Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment (oil changes, blade sharpening, air filters, belts, etc.)
  • Execute timely repairs to minimize downtime and keep crews operational
  • Maintain detailed service records for all equipment
  • Help assist team with snow operations and equipment repair prior to, during and post snow

Mobile Operations

  • Travel between branch locations (Milford, Millsboro, Selbyville) on a regular schedule
  • Provide on-site repairs in the field when necessary
  • Prioritize repairs based on operational needs and urgency

Transportation & Logistics

  • Safely transport equipment between branches and job sites
  • Operate company vehicles and trailers, including loading and unloading equipment
  • Ensure all equipment is secured properly during transport

Inventory & Shop Organization

  • Maintain organized mobile service vehicle and/or shop areas
  • Track parts, tools, and inventory levels
  • Coordinate ordering of parts and supplies as needed

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety protocols and procedures
  • Ensure all equipment meets safety and operational standards
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Leads by example with safety, uniforms and assist with safety talks

Communication & Reporting

  • Provide regular updates to the Asset Manager, Colby Sullivan and Branch Managers
  • Participate in weekly one-on-one meetings to review:

o Production performance

o Safety compliance

o Challenges

  • Improvement and personal development
  • Equipment performance and maintenance needs


Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in small engine repair (landscape industry preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Husqvarna equipment
  • Walker Mowers
  • Wright Manufacturing Mowers
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues efficiently and accurately
  • Valid drivers license with clean driving record
  • Experience towing and maneuvering trailers (required)
  • Ability to work independently and manage time across multiple locations
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sense of urgency

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Frequent bending, lifting, and mechanical work

1. Turnaround time on repairs

a. Equipment downtime reduction

b. Field response time

c. Equipment readiness for daily production

2. Preventative maintenance completion rate

3. Equipment & Repair Expense Budget Adherence

a. Definition: Ability to manage all equipment-related expenses within the approved budget, including repairs, parts, and maintenance.

b. Calculation: Actual Equipment Expenses ÷ Budgeted Equipment Expenses

c. Whats Included:

i. Parts and repair costs

ii. Outside vendor repairs

iii. Preventative maintenance materials

iv. Small engine replacement parts

v. Shop supplies related to repairs

Experience and License Requirements
  • 2+ yrs experience in small engine repair (Landscape Industry)
  • Ability to work independently and manage time across multiple locations
  • Diagnose mechanical issues efficiently and accurately
  • Experience towing and maneuvering Trailers
  • String Knowledge with Wright Manufacturing Mowers (optional)
  • Strong Knowldge with Husqvarna equipment (optional)
  • Strong knowledge with Walker Mowers (optional)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sense of urgency
  • Valid Driver's License
