Social Interaction and Experience Design Intern (Social Robotics)

We are building social robots designed to interact with humans in deeply natural, emotionally intelligent ways, especially for elderly care. We focus deeply on the conversation, expression, timing, tone, gesture, memory, and presence of our robots.

To push this experience closer to human-human interaction, we are looking for interns who think beyond screens and specs, people who can imagine, script, perform, test, and refine interactions close to lived experiences.

Role Description

Students or early-career individuals from Computer Science, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, Interaction/Experience Design, Creative Arts, Theatre/Acting, or related fields, especially those who love blending creativity with technology.

You do not need to fit one box. Curiosity and sensitivity to human behavior matter more!

Responsibilities

• Design realistic conversational experiences for social robots (verbal & non-verbal).
• Create stories, scenes, use cases, scripts, and screenplays for human-robot interaction.
• Evaluate and refine:
• Verbal responses (timing, length, tone, delays, intonation, recall, interruptions)
• Non-verbal behavior (expressions, transitions, gestures, nods, eye contact, distance, movement)
• Test interactions on non-functional and functional robot prototypes through repeated iterations. Coordinate, organize and conduct external testing sessions
• Record detailed qualitative feedback and translate insights into actionable improvements.
• Collaborate closely with AI, robotics, UX, and product teams.
• Follow through rigorously to refine, retest and push experiences toward realism.
