General Summary:
The Social Media & Communications Specialist coordinates, creates and executes social media content that supports the mission-driven goals of the organization, Public Affairs, the Department of Surgery, and the larger Marketing/Communications Department. Experience managing social media platforms (i.e., Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, X/Twitter, Doximity, YouTube), building and executing social media strategy, short-form video production, community management, website content management, copywriting, conducting interviews, and cultivating strong interpersonal relationships. This team member has excellent critical-thinking and storytelling skills, creativity, crisis communication awareness, feels confident navigating a hospital environment and is passionate about the Lurie Children’s mission.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Lead development, implementation, tracking and optimization of social media content across all Lurie Children’s channels to amplify organizational storytelling – with special emphasis on the Department of Surgery – reinforce and grow the brand reputation, and serve as a trusted source for child and adolescent health online.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing/Communications, Department of Surgery and Medical Center teams to understand business needs and produce a steady cadence of engaging, on-brand multimedia content tailored to each channel. Serve as a social media expert, offering best practice recommendations and analysis for internal teams and external partners as needed.
  • Help set and monitor social media-related goals, and manage tracking, reporting and ROI of Lurie Children’s social media performance in collaboration with the Department of Surgery.
  • Serve as liaison with social media management vendor to understand platform services, updates and optimizations that best serve Lurie Children’s social media goals and needs.
  • Attend weekly meetings with social media team and help guide social media brand strategy while maintaining flexible content calendar.
  • Attend in-person hospital events and marketing initiatives to capture content and engage with families and staff. Build and maintain relationships with medical teams and patient families to accomplish comprehensive storytelling.
  • Monitor brand and competitor social media channels to understand online brand reputation, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Report risks and successes to key stakeholders and make real-time decisions about interventions as needed.
  • Create channel-specific social media content to amplify research news.
  • Assist in coordinating and executing website copywriting and editing at the direction of key stakeholders, including posting research news releases and blogs.
  • Serve as Project Manager for all social media tasks, including collecting appropriate consent forms and resources needed for production, managing assets and timelines, and providing status updates for key stakeholders.
  • Perform ongoing research to stay current on industry benchmarks, emerging trends, audience preferences and changing technologies. Serve as the expert to larger Social Media team to communicate industry-related news and opportunities.
  • Perform all job functions with a focus on patient-centered care, innovation, service excellence, and teamwork to provide the highest-quality care and service to all stakeholders. Foster a safe, respectful and engaging online community.
  • Keep up to date on pediatric medicine and health care news locally and nationally to inform strategy as applicable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field
  • Certification/Licensure/Registration: N/A
  • 1-5 years of professional experience assisting or managing social media for a brand, non-profit organization, agency or other
  • Computer Skills (i.e. Software/Hardware): Microsoft Office (advanced Excel a plus), Canva, photo and video editing
  • Equipment: iPhone photography and videography
  • Other Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, copywriting, project management, data analysis and reporting, content management, organization, interviewing, AP Style knowledge, proactive, attention to detail, social listening, time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Bonus: Graphic design, experience with Sprout Social

Pay Range
$49,920.00-$81,619.20 Salary
At Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.
